For some reason though the posters here at ST hate on Taysom. It's the oddest thing.

I hate his contract

If he was making market value ($3-4M) I could swallow it.

He's making a lot more than that.

Please explain the year we pay him 24 million? And any further cap push was a money mgt decision. We extended him essentially for 10 mill a year

You're right. I was just looking at his dead cap.

Next year his cap hit is $13.92M and his dead cap is $23.75M

So if we cut him pre June 1, we lose $9.8M in cap space.

If we cut or trade him post June 1, it's a $0 net on 2023 and 2024 gets a 9,850,000 hit.
- - - - -

Note: we're almost certainly not going to let Taysom hill have a near $14M cap hit next year, so we'll roll a huge chunk of his $9.9M base into signing bonus, pushing the dead cap to a higher number.

Best case scenario for the Saints is getting Payton traded after this season. And if they could figure out a way to get more draft compensation and get Taysom off the books too? This is all good news.

The troubling part is his best friend relationship with Loomis and how this will impact the return we get for him.

this has been the case since the beginning. I have never believed that Loomis and/or Gayle were going to handcuff Payton by taking high draft picks from his next job.

They will thank him for his many years of service and wish him well.

Loomis will send Hill along with our 1st, 2nd and 3rd picks in 2024 to Payton for taking over his salary. And then let Payton sign wherever he wants for nothing in return.

Why is it so hard to believe people can be friends but separate the business aspect of it?

It means we’re going to get a really good return most likely.

Y'all are silly thinking Loomis is just going to hook Payton up. He better do what's best for this franchise.
