"I don't like the term retirement. Mr. B wasn't sold on it either."
Basically said his heart's not into coaching right now
it might be later... so he did leave that door open... but it's not now

He is straight up admitting he will want to coach again in the future.

So after his 2-3 contract years pass with us is he free and clear to go wherever?

He fricking quit on this team and his players. Man it's hard as a fan of this team not to take this personal.

I am going from sad to angry that he will be coaching in a big market after a year off.
Posted on 1/25/22 at 3:15 pm to tunechi
He's going to end up in Dallas in 2 years when they don't have have to give up picks mother frick
Posted on 1/25/22 at 3:15 pm to tunechi
Yup, he just set the stage for returning but with a new team unless our next coach flames out and the timing is right
Posted on 1/25/22 at 3:16 pm to geauxtigers87
now talking about the fans "it's not a wine & cheese crowd"
Posted on 1/25/22 at 3:17 pm to geauxtigers87
if dallas is willing to wait then the saints should trade him elsewhere. not sure who would take it on if he's retired.
i guess that wouldn't work either..

Oh shut up
Nah. frick off. Payton is literally leaving this team with 3 years left because it's "hard" but he looks right into the camera and all but assured he'll be back coaching and soon.

so should we tank and get the #1 pick?

If he was a player, he would have to complete the remaining contract that was left prior to leaving, so 3 years, IIRC.
I don't know if it's the same for coaches

We can't just trade him against his will
Posted on 1/25/22 at 3:18 pm to saints5021
This dude is crying at a press conference when he knows he is trying to soften the blow for what dallas is going to have to give up next year in a trade
