Petty Sean is petty.
“I thought it could be it and if you got to beat Atlanta one more time, that’s cool.”

Hoping Payton pulls a Jordan here. Takes a break to do something else (broadcasting) but comes back after a year when the itch to coach again comes back.

He doesn't want to be in New Orleans. If you listened to him throughout this whole presser he was excited about the prospect of going somewhere else and coaching with a new challenge and a better city

He touched on the idea that many coaches just ride the ship til it sinks, and say their good byes on their way out the door. Kind of have to admire his willingness to recognize when his heart isn't in it*, and make the decision to walk away while he's still young enough to go do other things in life.

*his heart will always want to coach, just maybe not New Orleans. Good news is we still own his rights, so we could have a say so should he decide to coach again.

If you also listened he mentioned having the necessary alignment from ownership, management & the coaching staff. Some of yall don't understand just how rare that is & he recognized that he had/has that with the Saints organization.

Sure, but that won't be here. It will be a hand-picked situation by him

I didn’t get this impression at all.

He seems like he really wants to do TV.

One year away and he’ll get that itch again. I could see him coming back.

He also made it clear that the organization still owns his coaching rights.

That's what I took away from it as well.

So we just fire our new head coach the minute Payton wants to come back?

not ideal, but depends upon the coach.

i was wondering if we should just purposely tank.

Give it up man. He’s never coming back. It really fricking sucks but that’s how it works.

Not a single coach in their right mind would come to Nola if he thought we hand it back over to CSP the minute he wants back in.

He’s gone. It was an amazing ride.

Everyone said that about Cowher. He was 49. I think he's done.

Did Cowher say during his press conference something along the lines of, "Look I am going to be completely honest with you, I am likely not done coaching." Because Sean basically said this.
