At last check, the expectation was Odell Beckham’s base salary would be reduced near the minimum, with the rest going to him in a signing bonus. That makes him very claimable and adds to the intrigue.

I honestly would be shocked if he makes it to the saints on waivers but if he does I fully expect us to grab him.

Pretty sure this is what the saints wanted Cleveland to do in the trade and they didn’t do it fell apart. So now are going to do it? Makes no sense on Cleveland’s part. And someone will likely claim him before us now.

Definitely isn’t happening now. Before the reduced salary the window was open. Need to target D Jax now

I heard on a national radio broadcast this a.m. he doesn't want to be claimed. He wants to be able to pick his team. This is what they're negotiating. A pay out large enough he'll clear, but small enough that it will be more team friendly.

I would love to see OBJ resurrect his career with the Saints but going to a team with Siemian and Hill at QB could lead to some serious WR frustration.

Is he really signing up for that?

I can’t wait til he gets picked up 15 waiver spots ahead of us and the brain dead Rant crowd comes over to start 15 threads about how Sean hates LSU

Yeah I read another article that said that he was trying to work it out where his contract wouldn’t change until he actually got passed waivers. I don’t know if this is actually doable. I also heard what you are saying. But what doesn’t make sense to me is that the larger his salary is the more likely a bad team under the cap grabs him.

His contract for this year is guaranteed ($8 million), if he is cut no team will claim him and pay that money. So he clears waivers and the Browns owe him that money, and he is free to sign any team.

If the Browns pay him the $8 million and call it a signing bonus, when he is cut the team now claiming him on waivers can get him for the minimum.

because OBJ wasnt on board with redoing his contract

now he has no choice if he wants another team to sign him so he is now ok with it

its not rocket science, OBJ was playing the game trying to get the most he can, thats what selfish self absorbed non team oriented players do

so what is the Browns' motivation to pay it immediately and call it a signing bonus?

You take pay cuts or give up bonuses for your fellow co-workers?

If we win this week, Tampa would have a better waiver priority than us as well.
