except the 29 teams who didn't take him.

Again, there are 29 NFL GM's who disagree. But what do they know?

Someone has been studying the Al Davis draft manual.

Also the last time we took a player that didn't git our scheme was Zach Baun, and it's been a failure tryin to get him to play a position he's not good at.

Precisely. It's the family of 4 buying a two seater sports car because it goes fast and looks good. Nothing inherently wrong with that car but it'll likely stay parked in the garage because it doesn't fit what you need.

If he’s so great then why’d 28 other teams pass on him?

If you do not care about scheme, you do not follow the NFL closely and are just watching for combine results.

29. The Eagles passed on him once already.

I'm not commenting on the pick but you just use a half sack difference to prove a point over a guy that missed 7 games.

If you look over the course of their careers

Smith: 38 games; 12.5 sacks, 20 TFL

Bresee: 25 games; 9.0 sacks, 15 TFL

Smith plays a position where the top priority is rushing the passer. Bresee, as an interior DL, isn't necessarily expected to put up huge sack numbers. That said, if you look at the numbers it is likely Bresse would have had more sacks and (possibly) the same amount of TFLs had he played the same amount of games as Smith.

What you are talking about is a fantasy land pipe dream. Are there ANY examples of a college DE/OLB pass rush specialist successfully transitioning to a stand up LBer?

I'm not saying its impossible and no one could ever make that switch but I am saying thta you are talking about it like its a guarantee to work when all evidence (to my knowledge) says it most likely won't work.

to the damn Eagles who won the draft last nite as for as I'm concerned.

The eagles are a fricking pass rushing juggernaut. The people downvoting you for saying something positive about another team will be the same ones bitching about how we’re nowhere near them during the season.

Is this why you think people are downvoting him?

The issue everyone is having is him thinking the saints should have passed on the best DL available to draft an undersized, injury prone, pass rusher with poor college stats to convert him to a standup LBer all because he ran fast in his underwear.

They literally never do, but congrats on being an Eagles fan. I'm sure they'll be just as good as last year because the NFL is all about continuity.

It’s funny bc the saints were 5th in the league in sacks last season and haven’t finished lower than 8th over the last five years

Only one team had less sacks than Philly in 2021. They had to invest heavily at the position

Nolan dropped for a lot of reasons
.
He is also injury prone and he isn’t dominant When he is playing.

Best season was 4.5 sacks in 12 games.

Another person who doesn't understand football. We had a DT years ago that was drafted in the 3rd or 5th from LSU, and that DT was let go before the season started. He then went to the bears and was great for them in their system. He had 2 pro bowls ect. You don't change your defensive scheme to fit one player.

We've already lived through this story multiple times with this franchise and coaching staff in the last decade. It doesn't work. I'm ecstatic I don't have to live through another 3 years of cramming a square peg in a round hole. Saints made the right pick.
