Look at the highlights of Smith, he flies to the ball with excellent speed, he makes plays,

Does he though? He wasn't much more productive than Bresee in far more games.

You even argued against yourself in this one.
How'd I do that, man?? 1 of the Saints needs is a LBer because they're thin there too. But I was mostly answering the other posters comment with my reply.

don't care what you say about "not fitting a scheme",

How often do you hear about guys getting moved or suddenly playing better when they go to a team that fits their scheme.

Nolan Smith is a pass rushing OLB. No team would ever draft him to replace players like Demario Davis or Pete Werner. He plays a completely different position (that essentially doesn't exist in the Saints scheme).

They are not really thin there. The have LBs. More unknowns but potential is there. They have invested there the last few years. Smith may have been better than most of the LBs on the roster, but they were very thin at DL.

Also the last time we took a player that didn't git our scheme was Zach Baun, and it's been a failure tryin to get him to play a position he's not good at.

This is 100% accurate Baun is woefully out of position. Spot fricking on.

He's listed as a LBer in the draft, really he's a DE/LB imo because he's capable of playing at LB with his speed which is why I said he could develop coverage skills as a pro. Players get coached up much more in the pros than they ever will in college, he's capable of learning to play a coverage LB while he's being used as a pass rushing mostly LB , but I didn't say anything about him replacing Davis or Werner. But I'm tired of arguing with y'all on this subject because y'all see what you wanna see, and I just don't agree.

I would say was. He's grown into the OLB spot over the last few years and is a reason they let Ellis go.

I don't feel like its been an argument. I feel like its been good discussion. I'm not trying to change minds, just make valid points.

based on what? Because it certainly wasn't in his game tape.

They're thin with quality LBs after Davis and Werner after losing Ellis to Atlanta, but whatever...

I melt every year, I think you got me confused with someone else, man. Also, it's based on his speed, athleticism and being able to run really well, that can translate to covering people. Smdh

You play him at his natural position and his productivity would be much better. They did the same thing with PJ Williams. He would have had a far better career at S Than as a nickel corner, but the saints fell in love with measurable and didn’t listen to the tape.

Maybe. But they have made investments. With draft capital and coaching. Baun in 20, Werner in 21, Jackson in 22, not to mention Dowell as a UDFA. The other guys are unknowns, yes.

They were a lot of really good players in the draft that fit these other teams needs more which is why they were taken before a Nolan Smith. I wouldn't say it was a matter of those teams passing on Smith like you're saying.

So its ok for other teams to pass on him cuz he didn't fit but the saints should have drafted him despite the fact that he didn't fit?

We need guys that can step in and play right away. Nolan Smith will have to either learn to play stand up LBer or will be relegated to a 3rd down player only in our defense.

Baun has been there and really isn't that good imo, I mean if they'd resign a kwon alexander or somebody I wouldn't even be talkin about this. But it doesn't matter, I like the Bresee kid he has excellent hustle, speed, and ability, he should amount to being a good DT. I just think he needs to play with a lower pad level because he's 6'5 and leverage is important in the pros. But he'll learn that though with being coached up and all because as I said earlier these guys learn or really start learning at the pro level and really improve a lot. Good day to y'all!

Breese looks like a nice player and fits a need. I’m glad we didn’t have to trade picks for him and move up 2 spots like last year.

I'm not commenting on the pick but you just use a half sack difference to prove a point over a guy that missed 7 games.

Bresee played in 10 games, had 9 tackles, and 3.5 sacks

Smith played in 8 games, had 14 tackles, and 3 sacks
