Then what’s the harm in bumping it to 20 if that’s what makes him happy?

Because its more than you have to pay.

19 would make him the highest paid WR.

Unless he won’t sign for less than 20. In which case 20 is not more than you have to pay. It’s exactly what you have to pay.

I mean I would love if he signed for 18 a year. I’d love if he signed for 10 a year. But if the choice is between causing discord between the future face of the franchise and the front office, maybe having to use the franchise tag, or giving him an extra million a year then just give him the extra million a year.

with the way the cap keeps going, wont this not be a big deal midway through the contract in terms of other WR deals?

It's like the QB conversation all over again.

He obviously wants 20 for some symbolic reason. You let him have it. Not all of an NFL contract is guaranteed.

Don’t be a greedy bitch Mike. Your numbers are only as good as the person throwing you the ball. Sign the contract already

yeah because they ran Gurley in the ground and refused to play a backup running back, which I never understood.

Thomas deserves and will get his 20 mil

Give the man his $20 million before the other WRs get paid.

Because if they get their extensions first, he'll want more than them, and it could be a long drawn out thing afterward, where we possibly lose him.

Yes, Brees makes WRs better, but he won't be around forever. We need to set the next QB up to succeed and MT13 is crucial to that happening.

I agree, pay the man his $20M. Brees helps make people look good, but let’s not act like his arm is what it once was. Thomas is a stud and top 5 WR regardless of who his QB is. Definitely a weapon you want to hang onto for Drew’s successor ala Deandre Hopkins w/ Watkins in Houston.

Yes. Shrug. Would be awesome that we let a top 5 nfl wide receiver walk over a million dollars. 19 million....we’re ecstatic we have mike as the face of the franchise.

20 million....frick Michael Thomas he’s a selfish diva we’re better without him!!!

That makes sense.

Thomas has the the lowest avg depth of target among WR1s in the league. Our offense and Brees are literally the best possible situation Thomas could be in. He’s worth $20 mil in this offense with Brees

Our fans really discount Brees and his accuracy. It’s hard to quantify the fact that Thomas hauls in 77% of his targets. Brees delivers short, intermediate passes on a silver platter. You look at a guy like Jarvis Landry, who has great hands but hasn’t had the benefit of playing with a Brees, and he only hauls in 66% of his targets

Imagine Landry’s numbers with a 77% catch rate, and Thomas with a 66% catch rate.

Guys like Kamara, ramcyck, lattimore are more valuable to the future of this franchise post Brees than Thomas.

Kamara is great, but everything you said about Thomas is doubly true with Kamara. Kamara is elite in Payton's offense, with a QB like Brees who throws elite short/intermediate routes and can audible to short throws against linebackers quickly, and a team who's willing and able to consistently pair him with a bell cow like Murray or Ingram so he doesn't get too beat up.

Our offense would produce maximum output for a lot of guys. It’s no secret. The proof is in the pudding once our skill players and even OL leave for other places

Kamara had the highest sparq score of RBs in his draft class (higher than CMC). His combo of size, athleticism and vision are plug and play in most offenses with any QB. He has few peers and would enjoy the same successes with a guy like TB. The tape speaks to it. Elusive rating, RZ work, yards per touch etc. He is creating

If Julio signs his deal first the price for Thomas will rise. However, I believe Jones is waiting for these deals to hit the books so he can maximize his as the richest.

18-19 is more than fair.

so you are of the opinion that you'd risk pissing the punch bowl over what will amount to $200K per year?

if they are only $1M off from getting this done, you do what it takes to get it done.... it's not like he's asking for 22-23M, where we are way far off from his figure...

you get the deal done, allow him to get his mind strictly on the season, and let him dominate, like he's been doing... we need NO distractions, considering our very limited window of favorable odds for winning another SB

I think Thomas, Cooper and Jones are all doing the same thing. However, I think Jones May wait out longer because he’s not on a rookie contract and has banked some money. He also has incentive to wait longer as this will likely be his last big deal. Thomas and Cooper have the ability to get a bigger deal in the future.

But none of their agents is likely in a hurry.

Hugh? It would amount to 4-5 million at least.

Yes. The Saints are compromising by making him the highest paid WR in football. He needs to compromise as well. This is a two way street.
