Thomas is a stud and top 5 WR regardless of who his QB is.
I wouldn't go that far. He was pretty pedestrian with TB at the helm against the Panthers even though he was trying to get a record. He is certainly one of the best WRs in the game, but let's not discount Drew's role in that as well.

I don’t like that average yards per target stat. I think without context it’s really flawed. Robert Foster and Kenny Stills are elite based on that stats.

No, Thomas doesn’t operate as deep down the field as others, but he was 3rd in the league in YAC and 3rd in first down receptions. That’s pretty incredible for a guy who’s TAY isn’t high.

I agree with you in principle but your math is wrong. It’s 1 mil per year. Not over the whole contract.

It doesn’t change my stance that it should be done.

Im not trying to say that a higher aDOT is better. Brees is the perfect marriage for a guy like MT who excels in short routes. Drew Brees is the most productive, accurate "short" passer ever. Thomas will never produce with another QB like he has with Brees. That's not an insult to him, just that no QB is going to come in and put the ball on him like Brees has

Of the 417 targets Thomas has seen from Brees over the last 3 seasons, 84.6% of them have been deemed catchable. That's the best in the league for any duo with that kind of volume. That is a ridiculous number considering the target volume. Brees has seen pressure less than a quarter of his snaps (again, best in the league), no one gets the ball out like he can. He's averaged a 72% comp rate over the last 3 seasons. Of course we can go on and on about Brees.

My point is, is Mike Thomas closer to the $15 mil a year Jarvis Landry kinda guy without Brees? Or is he all timer Larry Fitz kinda guy whose talent transcends the QB talent he plays with?

Yes, this is why he's great. It also speaks to my point about Brees being the engine - these numbers are driven by volume, which are accelerated by the accuracy and efficiency.

Can we fricking just get this done before it becomes an unneeded distraction.

He is clearly not Cam Jordan. He's more like his uncle.

As long as they get it done soon, I don't think anyone cares at all. Players understand him wanting to be compensated/get financial security. Just need it done in the next week and not drag out into some ugly thing like the Steelers/Bell.

I think it gets done this afternoon. Practice doesn’t start until tomorrow anyway.

Bad optic, but I don’t care if he doesn’t get issued a helmet and gets weighed today.

I will say though, it’s a tiny bit concerning because he did go thru OTAs. Did something recently sour?

I think he thought it would be done by now.

This is so stupid, just fricking get it done. We’ve already committed to this next year or two with Brees as our window.

I know most of the guys are close, so I dont think the locker room will be too shaken up.

However, if he starts missing games...

If the Saints believe this is THE year and swan song for Brees, they better pay this man.

Don’t like this. Hope something bad didn’t happen. Can’t imagine what would have happened but hopefully it gets resolved soon. Just give him the extra 1-2M and call it a day. He’s earned if

If they are as close as the reports have indicated, he is getting some bad advice in handling it this way.

How is it bad advice? He showed good faith coming in for OTAs expecting a deal would be done by today. It’s really his only leverage play especially if they are only a couple mil apart.

I would agree if he were not under contract. He reportedly has been offered the highest contract ever for a WR. Is a holdout really necessary just to be able to say you were the first $20 million WR instead of "settling" for being the highest paid WR ever? I hope it does not turn into a lengthy holdout and distraction.

Easy to just say, but should they just pay whatever he wants? Is more than any other WR that has ever played the game not enough?
