re: What are you reading?

Posted by Newkie on 3/24/24 at 6:36 pm to
Finished up Red Rising yesterday, and started Golden Son earlier today.

It's been years since I've read, so I set goal of reading at least 10 books this year.

I'm currently on #7. (Tuesday's with Morrie, 1984, The Midnight Library, Project Hail Mary, Confederacy of Dunces, Red Rising). Kind of all over the place, but can't believe I went so long without reading, as I'm enjoying it a ton.
Honestly, after Week 2 of the 2017 season, I thought it was over. Coming off three straight losing seasons, and starting off 0-2 that year, I remember leaving the Dome after the Pats beat us down, thinking that Payton had lost touch with the team/game and that it was time to move on from Brees.

Thought for sure we were about to go back to Ditka-like years.

Playoff results aside, we immediately go on to have the most successful stretch in franchise history. Go figure.

Dexter was the first show I ever binged. I kind of lost track in the previous final season... Watching Michael C. Hall in that role is probably the most fun I've ever had watching an actor portray a character... But damnit, the way this season played out to the end, to me, was perfect. There was some cheese, and some plot holes, but the overall story of Dexter... no complaints, from me. They nailed it.
Preordered with ATT within an hour of being able to. Had original ship date of Oct. 25 that is now pushed back to Dec. 9-16 .... Poo.

re: Jameis led us to another victory

Seattle's defense isn't good, but the Saints WRs are probably worse. Jameis didn't force anything, and in a game like this, doing that could've lost it. I wouldn't give him the game ball, but he definitely had a hand in not losing the game.

With the way the defense played, that was pretty crucial.

Getting the Pro version. Had an old Note 9 laying around the house that I can trade into ATT and get $700 off. $10 a month for the 256 deal... couldn't say no to that.

Finally went into an album of his with absolutely no expectations (actually expecting to hate it) and I'm very pleasantly surprised. Right now, it's the first album of his I've liked right away since MBDTF.

Evacuated from Houma for Ida, and came across "Moon" at the perfect moment. Sitting in the hotel room watching the storm coverage, I pretty much zoned out on that song, and had to repeat it a few times.

Pretty sure they all offer 7-day trials, too.

I had ATT TV to watch Pelicans games, but have also used YTTV and FuboTV, both of which I like.

I've been to nearly every playoff series we've had since the franchise came to NOLA, and, while, gun to my head, I'd pick the Saints over the Pellies, I'd also say that absolutely nothing compares to the atmosphere of a competitive NBA playoff game.

So, yes, I think New Orleans could match what Milwaukee fans did for the finals, especially after seeing the turnout for the night we drafted Zion.

It's been said so many times, but it was so refreshing to see these two franchises and fanbases in the finals, this year, as opposed to the usual teams.
Six 1st-place finishers won $758.33, each. From there, the next amount was $200 for 2nd-place finishers, then $100, on down.

The 1st-place finishers had 266.75 pts and I had 259.75... so, so close.

Really can't wait for football season.
Won $50 off the NBA game... Finished 28 out of 7,900 contestants on a $3 entry. Pretty sure I'll never do better...
Yep, I know. An Associated Press reporter tweeted the "month or two" info last week. Hopefully it's true, this time.

It's gonna be full-fledged mobile sports betting, so, yes, you'll be able to bet from your phone.

Daily fantasy should be up and running within the next month or two.
I don't remember what article I read it in, but I saw last week that the language in the bill had been changed to allowv issuing of temporary licenses to ensure things are ready for football season.

I'll try to find the article, but it mentioned mobile betting possibly going live as soon as July 1.
Actually, it's looking like we'll be set up for mobile betting either by the start or middle of this football season.
Everything I'm reading indicates that we have a very good chance to have sports betting set up either before, or at some point during, football season. Full-fledged mobile betting, too.

He reminds me of a Lance Moore type of guy. Security blanket most of the time, but could possibly get deep against the right coverage.

On the "should've been an interception," he had his guy beat by a lot. His hustle and presence of mind to break up the pass was impressive.

Winning cures everything, but this locker room has been amazing the past 4 years.

Sean Payton is a godsend to this franchise the way he fixed things after that 2014-2016 stretch, although you could see the tide turning as the '16 season went on.
I've always thought nothing would touch 2009, but 10 years removed, it'll feel just as incredible, especially after the last three playoff losses (especially Minny and St. Louis).

As far as season-long fun, I don't think anything will ever touch 2017. It was unexpected, especially after the first two games of that season. The fun that team had together. It amazes me how that one season, and the little things before it (Ireland, Payton cleaning house of his good ole boy assistants), re-energized Payton after those three stale years that preceded it. It feels like the early years of Payton, on steroids.

Not sure if they carry it at all locations, but Lowe's has butcher paper, here in Houma.
