Doubt he falls that far, but I would love the pick.

Bryan Bresee, DT, Clemson

New Orleans, back in Round 1 after Denver gave up this pick in the deal for coach Sean Payton, is in an interesting spot. It just added quarterback Derek Carr, and it has a talented, veteran roster -- with a few holes. It has tried to plug a few of those holes, notably by turning over the defensive tackle position, adding Khalen Saunders and Nathan Shepherd in free agency. Those two defenders have never played full-time roles, however, so the Saints should add another tackle if Bresee is available. Bresee had a fantastic workout at the combine, making my risers list. He could see the field early and often for this team.

Feel the same way, but lately have seen him all over the place from 25 to early 2nd. Which is weird, because I thought he did well at the combine. May just be a product of other players moving higher up than him, or that these experts love to pump the flashy positions and let the DT and o-linemen (outside top few) routinely "fall" in their mocks

Not sure he will be there at 29, may have to trade up a few spots but he is a take at 29

PFF had the saints trading up into the Vikings spot and drafting Breese

Doubt Breese would be there but Calijah Kancey might be... Mazi Smith would be too early for the 1st round.. Smith would better at the 2nd round pick. I just hope that the Saints go DL/Edge in the 1st round. Keeanu Benton would be good for the 3rd round..

Bryan Breese or Darnell Washington or bust in round 1.

I don't know why, but I feel pretty good about this name.

Breese reminds me of Robert Nkemdiche

He reminds me of former Saints DT Mike Tilleman. Big, thick white guy who will clog up the middle but probably won't provide much pass rush. Won't be an all-pro but should have a long, productive career

Years ago on saintsteport, when we were constantly being mocked Sheldon Rankins that year, I said it would be a major mistake.

DTs have a high bust rate especially in the first round. Even said it was very likely a few dts would end up better than him that were taken later in the draft. Sure enough there were multiple tackles taken later that turned out much better than him including one we took in the 4th round that year.

End of the first is kinda different. But DT’s are a hard position to scout.

Guy seems to be a stub but the injuries are a concern, and NOLAs medical staff doesn't have exactly rave reviews.

A sleeper position pick could be at LB'er in the first three rounds.

Its not often you may have your pick of the #1 Lb'er in the 1st or 2nd round Hell we may have the #3 lb'er staring at us in the 3rd round. Strange year for the position this draft.

PFF

1. DAIYAN HENLEY, WASHINGTON STATE
BIG BOARD RANK: 38
Henley has all the tools to be a good player at the next level, and it's a great sign that he already made so many plays in college.

2. TRENTON SIMPSON, CLEMSON
BIG BOARD RANK: 59
The ability is there, but the way Simpson sees the game isn't quite yet. He could benefit from a simplified role out of the gate.

3. JACK CAMPBELL, IOWA
BIG BOARD RANK: 64
Campbell is a high-floor middle linebacker, but he may also have a low ceiling.

4. DEMARVION OVERSHOWN, TEXAS
BIG BOARD RANK: 82
Overshown's draft stock was on life support after a dreadful 2021 campaign, but his massive improvement in 2022 should encourage evaluators.

5. DREW SANDERS, ARKANSAS
BIG BOARD RANK: 95
Sanders is so raw for an experience-driven position like linebacker that it's hard to justify spending a premium pick on his “upside.”

6. DORIAN WILLIAMS, TULANE
BIG BOARD RANK: 97
Williams has an interesting coverage skill set with the kind of length that defensive coordinators can work with.

7. IVAN PACE JR., CINCINNATI
BIG BOARD RANK: 99

8. NOAH SEWELL, OREGON
BIG BOARD RANK: 105
Schemes that blitz their linebackers and use them as hole players will covet Sewell's services. All others should look elsewhere.

9. CAM JONES, INDIANA
BIG BOARD RANK: 121

10. OWEN PAPPOE, AUBURN
BIG BOARD RANK: 141

CBS

34 Trenton Simpson Clemson Jr LB 1 6-3 240
38 Drew Sanders Arkansas Jr LB 2 6-5 233

101 Daiyan Henley Washington St. Sr LB 4 6-2 232
118 Noah Sewell Oregon Soph LB 5 6-2 253
135 Jack Campbell Iowa Sr LB 6 6-5 246
141 DeMarvion Overshown Texas Sr LB 7 6-4 224

Sheldon Rankins wasn’t a bust though. He was turning into a beast before he was injured in the 18’ playoffs. Man is still pretty good even now

You draft complete DTs high in the draft. Rankins had the tools to be a run stuffer and a pass rusher. He put it together before he got hurt.

At 29, I am fine taking a guy who has some limits in either of those skills, as long as they are elite in one of them.
