Mel Kiper has the Saints picking QB Kenny Pickett in his new mock draft

FYI, FWIW

The Saints tried and failed to add Deshaun Watson, so are they definitely committed to Jameis Winston now? I don't think so. If the board shakes out this way -- with all of the passers available -- why shouldn't they take Pickett? He's the most NFL-ready of the bunch, leveling up last season with 42 touchdown passes and just seven interceptions. He is super accurate. He understands how to run an offense and lead a team. He could be the Saints' future.
This is a strange quarterback class, and the range on when Pickett and Malik Willis come off the board varies from everyone I talk to in the league. No one knows for sure. I would not be shocked if either of them fell into New Orleans' lap here.

I'm going to lose my s*** if we grab Pickett

I get that the perception is they are not committed to Winston giving the parameters of the contract. However, since they appear to have him locked for at least the next 2 years, why would this be relevant
Since they have a QB in place for at least 2022, and possibly 2023; wouldn't they be better suited with a QB that has a higher ceiling as opposed to the one that may be able to take a snap sooner?

Personally I think they should load up on offensive talent this year and give Winston a chance to see what he can do.
If he doesn't appear to be the long term solution, go all in next year on acquiring a QB in the draft, in a much better QB draft. Use Winston for a bridge year.

if they want a QB, just grab Carson Strong in the 3rd/4th round

Like pickett, but hes gonna sit for a few years barring inury
and we have needs...OT, WR, S just to name a few

If you think Pickett or any of the other QBs can be a franchise QB, you pull the trigger without hesitation. If he can't beat out Jameis next year, you get two years for him to learn the NFL game.
Jameis is not the long term answer. We need to be in the drafting QB business until we find one.

I'd rather give Jameis this season then look at next year's QB draft class

I don't think anyone disagrees with this statement, there are just many that don't think there is a franchise QB in this draft. It'll be curious to see if the front office agrees.
I just hope we don't get to the level of Cincy (pre-Burrow), Clev, NYJ... and are constantly chasing QBs while also constantly spending 1st round picks on QBs

I dont think he will be there at 18 and if he is we may get something good for that pick.

Isn’t he like 24 already? We gonna play him when he’s like 30 if we draft him?

If we go that route, and then that QB takes a few years to come on, we’ve likely missed our window with this defense.

I think they are going to go after a qb in 2023.

Matt Corral has his Pro Day tomorrow and it's the 1st time since last year he's thrown in front of scouts.
I would expect a shift in these talking heads' QB boards afterwards.

He didn't say his ceiling was low. He also said he could be our future, which to me indicates a high ceiling.

If his hands keep growing at this rate from his stretching routine he'll have the biggest hands in the league by 2029.
Definitely like his swagger and his smarts but would rather have a WR and Jameis.
