He's a good pass rusher, but 14 mil a year? We could pay Justin Houston that and get an All-Pro in the process.

He isn't getting $14 million a year. He has a roster bonus that we would very, very likely have to pay either way

That $12.5 million roster bonus will get converted into a signing bonus like it was always designed to do.

As of now, this is his cap hit each year:

2014: 2.95
2015: 15.4
2016: 5.8
2017: 6.5
2018: 8.2
2019: 8.4

Now, with the $12.5 million roster bonus converted into a signing bonus:

2015: $5.45 million
2016: $8.3
2017: $9
2018: $10.7
2019: $10.9

So an average of $8.87/year. Not even close to $14/year

He doesn't suck I agree, but is he worth the amount of money we paid for him? Frick no

His contract is good for both him and the Saints. It would be cap suicide to cut him at this point.

cutting him this year actually loses money iirc (considering the bonus) of course.

Trade him to Atlanta for a 1st + 2nd

There's no logical way for you to get under the cap and sign players without restructuring Byrd, Graham, or Galette.

Lets just say:
Evans 2mil pay cut (4.8 base salary; 11.0mil cap)
Colston 2mil pay cut (6.9 base salary; 9.7mil cap)
Grubbs 2mil pay cut (6.5 base salary; 9.6mil cap)
Lofton 1mil pay cut (2.65 base salary, 4.5 bonuns, 9.25mil cap)

we still aren't even close.

Cut hawthorne, bunkley (saves 5.8mil total)

You're just halfway

If you know capology then you know those bonuses are guaranteed to get converted(Galette and Byrd's at least 100% without a doubt; Graham is also almost a given; Lofton is more 50/50).

These were the mechanism put in place in the contracts Loomis was speaking of.

Anytime you sign someone to a 6+ year deal you can only spread the signing bonus over the first five. A roster bonus in year two allows you to keep the first year cap hit low, make sure the player is living up to the contract before giving him more guarantees, and pushing signing bonus into the 6th year helping to spread the hit out when you convert.

It's basically agreeing on a big signing bonus without the team guaranteeing the whole thing in year one. This would have helped a lot with Brees' contract, allowing us to add a void year (or extend him) to help spread out the hit. Brees wanted the whole thing up front. While Loomis did what he could with the numbers Brees' side definitely won on the contract and it hurt our flexibility.

I'm not convinced it's a guaranteed bonus

It's not guaranteed yet. It becomes guaranteed on March 12th. I may have missed someone saying it already was.

Well if the Dez Bryant video is as bad as its being built up to be, Rog will be dropping the guillotine on woman beaters. Gotta show that he cared all along.

It's basically guaranteed now. If we cut him before March 12th, we still have to pay it. The only caveat is that if we trade him before that date, the team he is traded to pays it. It's exactly the situation Washington went through with Haynesworth. They were desperately trying to trade him before his guaranteed roster bonus kicked in, but had no interest in cutting him as it didn't help them(not comparing Juneyah himself to Hayneworth, who always started playing like shite after a payday).

I don't care what he does off the field or how much shite he talks as long as he continues to get his 10 sacks and is in the top half of the league in QB pressures.

Junior is not worth the money the saints are paying him. He talks to much crap and doesn't back it up with his play. I still can't believe the saints agreed to his contract.

My thoughts exactly. It's like no one is actually paying attention to the details of this story.

Was he a cancer on their highly ranked defense two years ago? He was probably their second best defensive player last year. It's really sad to see the way fans have turned on guys like Junior and Graham.

by your previous statement, this much is obvious

Here's the low down on Galette. He's a phoney christian that loves to get his taffy pulled by hot shitmutts. He loves talking trash via twatter and the press, and he loves getting his taffy pulled by hot shitmutts.

What he isn't is a TPOS that ChrisBrowns those hot shitmutts and sicks his puppies on them. That case was a load of bullshite, and it has mostly been proven as such.

How many of you don't like getting your taffy pulled by hot shitmutts? You are the only ones allowed to rail this not-so-upstanding-but-also-not-a-bad-dude TPOS

Since midget broke down your post perfectly, I'll just ask a question.

Who has Juniors production that makes less than $8 million/year, rookie contracts not included?

Idiots are looking at his 2015 cap hit without looking at the structure of his contract.

Junior is actually someone who 100% outplayed his previous contract.

He's been a compete bargain at this point. If the FO took this approach with Brees and Graham, we'd likely have an extra $5 million to spend
