Reality is that Carr is not as bad as he seems in all honesty. He is by no means a great QB and was not a great signing, but under the right leadership and offense, he would be adequate with a strong defense.

Reality is that Allen is a horrid head coach and this is showing in how this team operates. Look at the in fighting, lack of effort, lack of respect by players for each other including guys like Thomas going off on Twitter in the middle of a game. Kamara continuing to be a pussy when running the ball.

It all leads back to DA and is exactly what his time at the Raiders looked like. The guy hasn’t really changed and has shown no reason to believe he will.

That is why you fire him, and bringing in new blood to try and change the culture and get what you can out of Carr since you are stuck with him for the time being.

Reich didn't even last a season.

I get the point, but not an even comparison. As an owner,Tepper is averaging approx 1 HC per year. Add the fact that Tepper sold the farm for Bryce while Reich wanted Stroud, and they were working on a 1 win season w no 1st rounders next year because of Tepper’s decision. I am sure there was some internal bad blood there, Tepper has a quick trigger, and now he gets to use Reich as the scapegoat for his dumb decision.

The team should have the balls to move on from DA sooner than later, but Reich is not the best example. Maybe McDaniels since we’re aiming to be the NOLA Raiders

Why do people poor mouth this job so much?

We have ownership that is not notoriously cheap like the Chargers.
We have legit players unlike the Bears or Raiders so you don’t have to do a complete rebuild.
The division is attractive. You don’t play teams like Kansas City or the 49ers twice a year and all four teams have gone to the Super Bowl the last 15 years. It’s not like we are in the AFC East when only the Patriots could win. If anything, we’re the best team in this division with a good coach.
It has a supportive fan base, unlike a team like the Chargers or atlanta.

This is a good coaching job to have.

The fact that it's a possibility tells you all you need to know about this franchise. The rest of the season shouldn't matter, he should already be a shoe in to be gone.

DA is the worst HC we have had since before the days of Jim Mora. I was too young to remember who was HC before Mora. He probably is in the running for the worst of all time? Any of you old heads care to chime in?

Best coaches since the 90s.

1. Sean Payton
2. Jim Mora
3. Jim Hasslett

4. Mike Ditka
5. Dennis Allen

Only reason Ditka gets the nod over Allen is because he took crap and just smeared it all over the walls. Allen is legitimately destroying an organization.

I don’t think Allen deserves it because he’s genuinely a bad head coach, but I understand them wanting to give their head coach more than two seasons. Especially with Carr on the books. I don’t see it making sense to jettison Allen when you’re saddling the next guy with Carr’s horrible contract.

Sounds more right than not. I think as the team and the cap looks right now we are not a place the best coaches may want to go too.

Why do people keep saying this? We say we are in cap hell every year, then we restructure and make a big signing. And there’s only so many free agents you can sign.

As bad as he is, Carr is still the best QB in the division. It’s one of only 32 jobs on the planet and only a handful will be available this year. Playoffs are within reach and not years away. Ownership and Management is volatile or notoriously cheap (like Carolina or the Chargers)

This is a good job.

If they retain DA after this season, fans need to just stop going to games and stop watching on TV.

I’d be shocked if we got rid of Allen this off-season regardless of what happens the rest of the way. Not that I agree with the decision, we will inevitably fire him so the sooner we do the sooner we can find the right guy for the future.

But these are businesses, and that just isn’t going to happen after 2 seasons. I don’t like it any more than others, but that’s reality.

Hoping we at least see a new OC and have a great draft.

but here's the thing, the entire point of promoting Allen was for continuity purposes, and he has completely failed.

This wasn't billed as a rebuild, nor has our FO treated it as one. So he doesn't deserve more time.

This franchise is pretty lost up its own arse if they retain DA. I don't care if he even makes the playoffs, this team looks so poorly coached and disinterested so often, to pretend Allen will suddenly figure it out and become a competent HC is insanely delusional. To ignore all of this and point towards a playoff berth in a historically weak division with a ridiculously easy schedule as a feather in his hat, is treating your fanbase like idiots. A complete house cleaning is in order but we have a clueless owner who defers all decisions to the people that have gotten us in this mess.

If its the only opening sure. But you usually are competing for the top candidates with others.
FWIW Baker is 18th in QBR and Carr is 23rd with no one below Carr being a QB you want for the future.

Salary cap?
Tampa is at + 120 million next year #1
Saints are dead last -89 million b#32
Atlanta and Carolina are ranked #13 and #16.

The division will not be the same next year and are schedule is tougher.

Playoffs or not I hope they dump DA

Tom Fears was terrible.

JD Roberts was even worse. I think the highest level of head coaching he had done prior to being hired was Division II.

John North lasted 2 seasons and was just was bad.

Hank Stram was a massive upgrade. But the game had passed him by, Archie was hurt his whole first season, and the team was too young to compete well.

Dick Nolan was the best coach to that point and the offense flourished. However, they ran the Flex defense, which was already dying and no one but Tom Landry could ever make it work, so the defense was horrid. Then the wheels completely fell off in 1980 and they went 1-15.

Then there was Bum Phillips. He drafted well but his system relied heavily on having a workhorse running back and that kind of football was in the past. When George Rogers fell apart in 1984, Bum was done.

That's when Benson bought the team, hired Funks who hired Mora and you know the rest.

So, where does DA fit in that crowd? He is doing a better overall job now than any of them did. Maybe you can argue Nolan in 1979 or Bum in 1983 is comparable, but that's it. The Mecom era Saints were beyond putrid. There is no comparing the team now to then.

Payton and Mora are clearly better than DA. he is about the same as Haslett I think. DA is better than all the rest.

Half a decade isn’t long enough as a head coach to get a good read?

Not one winning season and one of the worst winning percentages in nfl history. If Micky brings him back next and it’s the same results as this year, which is highly possible, entire front office needs to be cleaned out.
