This could be just a smokescreen to push the Saints into meeting his contract demands, but if this is true, then it appears that the Saints are deluding themselves if they think they are in a "good position", as was reported by NOLA.com earlier today. According to this rumor, if Aaron Rodgers isn't traded to the Jets, then Carr will be a Jet. I do not see Rodgers being traded anywhere, so if this is true, the Saints need to move to Plan B.

I don't understand why people think this is a smokescreen.

This is probably true.

Because if jets were as high on him as they said and if he is as high on them and the feeling was mutual...he'd be a jet right now.

If Rodgers says he wants to be a jet none of this even matters. He can want NY all he wants they'll trade for Rodgers

No offense to our team, but unless he is just chasing money, there is nothing in Dennis Allen that inspires any confidence that you'll be competitive outside your crappy division.

Guessing you were not a Saints fan in 2006.

Seems like a huge hedge by Fowler by calling it a "slight lean" and then saying he could sign with the Saints or Panthers before the Jets make a decision on Rodgers. A bunch of nothing in that article.

I don't blame him for doing that because he sure isn't chasing a championship.

What does he know about that?

If he signed with Atlanta or Carolina and kicked our arse for years, then I'd be the first one to bump this thread and take my lumps.

But he isn't worth it.

playing salary cap gymnastics at his expense seems like lunacy unless there is some other twist that no one saw coming.

Ive said a few times in other threads, Jets are all in on Rodgers. Once he decides where he wants to go, then they may make a run at Carr.

But if Rodgers is still available, they are going to wait for him.

Would Jimmy GQ + drafting a QB be the better option?

While injury prone as hell, he's a very cerebral QB from what everyone reports. He often times "makes the right play" and can win you games that Dalton didn't. Will cost substantially less than Carr and can be a bridge type of player.

He signed a 5yr/130, redid his contract for 1/6.5mil and injured doing so.

You gotta think some team is gonna throw a 2/30 at him

The Jets have Rogers as their #1 option and Carr as their plan B.

I could be wrong but I do not think Carr sees himself as a plan B. and I also do not think Carr is enthusiastic about playing his home games outside in the NY winters. Just look at his record in outside cold weather games. Not very uplifting.

IMO there is a reason Carr only wanted to meet with the Saints while he was under contract with LV.

But I agree the Saints need to have a plan B and IMO that plan is not a QB in the 2023 draft. No one outside of the top 3 are ready to step in day one so your plan B may be A)re-sign Dalton and draft someone you think can develop into the starter in a year or two (fwiw I don't think there as guy I trust to be that guy outside of the top 3 and possibly McKee and/or Hooker.) B) Go after a young FA QB in the league now or Jimmy G (Which I'm not convinced of) or C) ride one more year the best you can with what you can scrape together and plan to get your QB of the future in next years draft.

Hopefully accurate and he saves us from ourselves.

Don’t blame him though. They have more weapons and a more stable coaching staff. We’re in an easier division but all athletes think they can compete wherever.
