I don’t get the whole “injury/age concerns” narrative. He’s had a couple broken bones and he’s about to be 26, not 46. Drew Brees started his career with one of the worst shoulder injuries imaginable, had it repaired, and went on to have a a pretty good career. Not saying Shough is second coming of Brees, but this take has to be one of the dumber ones I’ve seen in a while.

These are people that hate we did not draft Sanders.

Actually Shedeur went 3 and out against the starters. Then later threw TDs against the backups.

But this isn’t Shucky vs Sanders. Shucky is getting better. And any Saints fan should be encouraged by that.

Practice and preseason games only matter when the guy one likes plays well

This will be a long season if Jake Haener, rattler, Shedeur and Shough cause this much divisiveness

This whole narrative around age being a concern is just wrong. It is a concern IF he becomes a super star, and only concern then is that you ONLY have a star QB for maybe 10 years instead of 14. It's actually a plus for him right now.

Exactly. “Injury prone” meaning “he’s had injuries” is so arbitrary that it’s meaningless. I understand why it’s said but it’s silly. If you are consistently straining the same muscles, or have had ligament damage to the same knee or something, it makes sense.

But taking a helmet directly to the collar bone and then having a lineman fall force into your lower leg doesn’t make you “injury prone”. What would the alternative look like? The ability to teleport? Having adamantium bones?

It's as if rookie QBs rarely start off good and take time to settle in to the pro game. Shocking

While every rookie QB takes some degree of time to fully get comfortable, in this day and age the good rookie QBs "settle in" very quickly. Guys like Burrow, Herbert, Lawrence, Stroud, Daniels, all showed they were going to be capable of being NFL starters pretty quickly. Then you have the other rookie QBs who weren't very good early and really haven't gotten much better.

There's no way to know what category Shough falls in based upon a few preseason series. Personally, I hope Moore lets him start on Sunday and play significant snaps. Now is the time to see what you might have without any concerns as to the ultimate result of the game.

It’s just practice…..

He needs to be starting games over the long season to truly evaluate him.

By the time he was Shough's age, Brees had already thrown almost double the NFL passes that Shough had thrown college passes. Shough also played on the same college team with Justin Herbert who is already in his 6th NFL season. The age just shortens the runway a bit. It is not to say that he could not become a successful NFL QB, but recent history has not shown well for QBs starting out so late in the pros.

They get to watch the team practice and Haener is a practice hall of famer evidently. Not hard to imagine really thinking a player can be great in a game

He also had a plate installed the second time his collarbone broke so it won't break again.

And he also learned to be more judicious when scrambling, so he rarely takes those kinds of hits.

As said, he hasn't had a history with muscle nor ligament issues. He is not injury prone from that perspective. As long as he keeps making smart decisions when he takes off he'll be fine, and it seems he already learned that lesson the hard way.

What would have Drew Brees looked like at age 25 playing at Purdue? He was already 2x Big 10 POY with two top 4 Heisman finishes at normal college age

Shough was 5th in the ACC in yards, 4th in TDs, 5th in QB Rating, 8th in comp%. He was 25 playing in a bad conference. The NFL age isn’t the concern, he’s just the first highly drafted, old QB who didn’t dominate the NCAA

Funny part about this is Shough has yet to play in an actual game with starting caliber players and against starting caliber players, and so many of this board already want to peg him as one of those rookies that aren't very good and won't improve.
