If Allen is promoted then expect a look at Zimmer for DC

Former Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer wants to coach in the NFL in 2022, per source. Some teams hiring have assumed he would take time off but he appears ready to get back in the fold. Zimmer produced several top-five defenses and a 72-56-1 record as head coach.

He hasn’t gotten any interviews because it was assumed that he was taking time off. He would be an elite DC and would allow Allen to focus less on the defense. If we did promote Allen I’d love to see him brought in for the DC spot.

This makes me get behind Allen a lot more if true.

Would be one hell of a hire.

100%

May be just a short term hire but would be a fantastic get. Pete at OC(get some new blood in that room) and Zim at DC would be a good staff for Allen to start with.

This is false, Allen would be the DC and any DC hired would be for title alone. It would be Allens defense. Zimmer is only going somewhere were he is the head defense guy running his scheme.

You don’t actually know that. We don’t know how Allen would want to run the team.

I would expect him to promote Ryan Nielsen to DC

So a highly successful DC gets the head coaching job because of the great job he has done and the first thing he is going to do is hire a an Alpha D coordinator to run a completely different defense.

And then a former head coach and top D Coordinator is going to go to a team that as defensive coordinator to be second guessed by the former successful DC who is now the head coach.

Got ya!! Come on

That’s definitely an option too. But Zimmer would be a home run.

Hell, Zimmer is more qualified than Allen. Hire him as head coach and keep Allen as DC.

Wouldn't it make more sense for Zimmer to want to come here if we had a offense oriented HC?

Wouldn’t mind this. I wonder if we could bring Aaron Glenn back as DC. Surely he knows the DA system well, and has a year of calling a defense now.

Hell yeah, same here. Dude is a damn good DC and having another coach on staff with such recent HC experience is huge. I am not sure what went wrong in Minnesota but I don't think he was a bad HC either.

This is what I was thinking, that he’d want to pair with an offensive coach to he could run the defense without oversight.

I do like the idea of Zimmer, Vic Fangio or keeping Allen as a defensive coach. They have proven to be the best in league.

The New Orleans Saints are leaning to promoting defensive coordinator Dennis Allen to head coach, and that announcement could come early next week, sources close to the team have said.

Zimmer is top notch DC. Sean Payton had a lot of respect for him. If Allen were to get the job, I’d love to see it happen with Zimmer, but they should act quickly. Zimmer will be sought after.

If Allen is promoted I hope kris Richard gets the dc job. Too valuable of a secondary coach to lose.

I think if Aaron Glenn doesn't come back to the Saints in some capacity, he and Campbell will pursue Marcus Williams pretty hard in free agency

Having coached him before and seeing how they need safety help bad.
