Gonna Say Something Ya'll Don't want to hear...

I'm sure Saints fans will cringe when I say it, but here goes. It's time to replace all the old players who have lost a step or two. Players like Honey Badger, Cam Jordan, Demario Davis, etc.
Sure, they're still making tackles or getting a sack every now and then, but the true reality is they're not bringing the intensity a younger version of themselves once brought. And, collectively, that hurts the team.

That the Saints have an old and expensive roster has been discussed ad nauseam on here

I'll say something most don't want to hear. The Saints have a good defense, Davis is still playing at a high pace for his age and being nicked up, Honey Badger is not young anymore but he's a veteran leader on the defense, Cam has been replaced and is contributing the best he can and is now a good rotational piece.
If we have our full defense on the field it's a much closer game. Carr doesn't look nearly as relaxed as he did in the first two games, and IMO it's not because of the Oline, they have played surprisingly well for the amount of injuries they have had. The lack of options at WR is killing the offense and at least in this game the lack of (changing up the offense a little) hurt them. It seemed the Spagnola knew exactly what Kubiak was going to do almost every play after that first drive. Probably because of the familiarity with facing him.
My expectations are the same as I've said all off season. The team is rebuilding and I try to enjoy watching the young players develop. Speaking of, Breese is going to be a beast.

Completely original topic. SQROOT 0/10 thread, do not recommend.

Unfortunately, they cost as much to cut as they do to keep...at best.

That's some "Mickey Magic" right there.

Yeah I was talking about this when we signed Carr
Cam is just the first domino to fall here, where we have to extend older, unproductive players to avoid the void year hits that we can't afford due to Carr's contract added to our shitty cap situation.
We had to extend Cam and give him real money/cap hits, and he's a zero on the field.
We are likely going to have to cut Kamara b/c he's got one of the few deals that would be beneficial for a cut.
We are going to have to restructure Carr, which likely will include an extension to spread out the hit of the restructure (which is just going to turn base salary into signing bonus).
If we can do the Ram fraud again, that would help, allowing us to cut him as a June 1 cut in 2025.

I know it’s October but that’s some really scary shite right there

Carr is not as big of an issue if you can get Haener or Rattler to develop as a QB since they are on relatively cheap contracts. Its too late to do much with the others since they have already had their contracts extended. That's why I'm not in favor of the Adams trade. Given all the issues with this team, trading draft picks, and their cheap contracts, for an aging vet and his big $ contract, doesn't make a lot of sense. This team needs more than Adams to be competitive.

You think we don’t want to hear this?
Some of us said this like 3 years ago when these guys were younger

Even if you replace them, their contracts are on the books for the immediate future.

And herein lies the problem. Mickys backed himself in the corner. He needed to go cheap as possible at qb until we were out of that hole.
Instead he doubled down with Carr for fricking Allen. I’m ready for both to go.

Let's just say you're correct and either Haener or Rattler are that guy.
Carr will be paid during these cheap years, and he's unlikely to be benched. What good does their rookie deals do when we don't get to take advantage of it (by being burdened with Carr's deal)?

That would destroy our 2026 cap b/c we'd have to post-June 1 cut them and we'd be pushing like $40M+ in dead cap onto 2026
We're more likely to extend him and if we're just letting him go, we should have traded him this past offseason when he had value

So, its better to have Carr and no other alternative? Sure, it would be better if you could just get rid of Carr, but the cap hit is not sustainable. With the other two on cheap deals, if one hits, you at least get somone who can play the position without taking on another huge contract. Play the young guys now, give them some experience, and find out if one really can be the starter going forward.
