He couldn't produce with the passing game in Indy with his Stanford QB teammate? Why would he play better here?

To be fair, their Oline is one of if not the worst in the league. Not to mention they couldn't run the ball at all making their offense predictable as hell.

Are you people forgetting the Saints ol isn't exactly setting the world on fire? I like the signing but that's not an a reason to rationalize it

I like Fleener and think he is a pretty good TE. However, it is frustrating that we spend that much money on another toy for Payton on offense when we continue to suffer on defense.

I agree about the need on defense, but don't look at this like it's "another toy". We saw what happens to our offense with no true weapons. Granted, last year might have been an anomaly, but losing Watson hurt, and we no longer have Colston. Drew needs people to throw to.

Not saying our is all world but thiers is literally breaking Luck in half. They cant run the ball at all either...

Ours is not great but its improving...Thiers will get their QB killed. Big difference

Our offense isn't what was struggling... granted Fleener is a very solid TE and a dangerous redzone threat, but we overpaid (again) for another free agent when we could've went after a true need at OL or DE. However, I'm pretty sure we're going heavy on defense in the draft again with this signing so I'm ok with that.

Just a bit of a steep price in the end.

The Saints have had awful luck spending free agency dollars on defense lately. I don't blame them for holding off on big names.

Of the $36 million total, $14.6 million is fully guaranteed. That includes the signing bonus, and the base salaries in 2016 and 2017

Everyone is up in arms over the 36 million, we basically signed him for 3 years 15 mill, if he's not performing over those years we cut him with minimum problems. Also, our cap situation is much better next year without all our dead money from this year gone, so paying a guys 6-8 mill isn't that bad.

Fleener's strength is stretching the seem of the defense, he has rare combo of height and speed, and has been healthy most of his career. He could be a red zone monster with Drew, if we can make Ben Watson look like a top 10 TE at 35, Fleener could be going to Hawaii in the next few years.

NFL Contracts are all about the guaranteed $, 15 mill is very reasonable on a long term deal. The salary cap will continue to go up over the next few years, and if Loomis can avoid all these dead money problems we've had, we will be in good shape cap wise. We get a play maker for Drew, which he needed, at a minimal hit this season, the only season we need to be concerned about right now. Let's find a veteran guard and some D-Lineman and for fricks sake extend Drew Brees!

And as usual, people overreact without all of the info. This is beyond fine.

Jimmy was 10 mill a year two years ago.

This averages to about 7 if he sees all of contract.

HooMan is replacing Watson, this is replacing an offensive presence that hindered us much of the year.

His contract details are very managable. Loomis and/or Ireland did a great job structuring that thing.
