Andrus Peat is officially listed as a free agent, so the Saints will take on his $13 million dead money hit

I'm assuming the only real chance of keeping him was negotiating a prior extension before the dead money hit.

well we're in no position to extend him near real market value. Not even sure what peat is looking to play, lt or lg but either way, he's not worth 15-18 million a year for us any longer.

We have Project Penning. Maybe a vet stop gap and look to draft.

Just said the same thing. He was so versatile. Guess we'll see him in Denver

I believe he got hurt in the final game. That's really been the biggest issue with him.

How is a guy that is the very definition of "Up and down player" "Not living up to 1st round pick" "Non dependable play" or one the most disappointing players for years here on ST a damn "head scratcher"?

There's this phenomenon that occurs when an individual doesn't represent the entire group.

He will probably get a 3/60 type deal. Gotta make these decision when you’re up against it.

I'd be surprised if he got that much with his injury history.

People often list names like Browner, Gallette, Apple, David, Byrd, etc. as their least liked former Saints.

All terrible I agree and I’ve no love lost for them, but the thing most of those players have in common is they were only with the Saints for maybe 3-4 years, and usually less.

Project Peat was a 1st rounder that stuck for nearly a decade. He was rarely good, occasionally mediocre, and mostly flat out sucked or was injured while commanding far too high a salary. I don’t think I’ve ever heard an OL name called so much (not a good thing) and have never been more frustrated with a Saints player that was with the team so long.

Good riddance

No

No one knows what Peats market is. He’s a LT that didn’t pan out after the draft that moved inside to Guard and had a pretty nice career there and has the ability to play LT in a pinch and proved he can survive they’re if need be last year. But is he a LT or a G? Father Time is also knocking on the door so what’s his contract value?

My guess is the Saint are doing him a favor and letting him find his market value and likely let him know they would like to have him back but don’t want him to lose out on money he could get in FA and would like a chance to match or counter if possible.

Peat did the team a favor last season by taking a pay cut and reworking his deal. Now it time for the team to do him right letting him get as much as possible. I’m sure the Saint have an idea of what they would offer him and ultimately may have let him know. It this is not uncommon for players in his situation.

I’ll wait until he is actually signed elsewhere before I celebrate.

He was a consistent starter on some of our best lines that were being talked about as best in the league. He was injured every other week, drafted too high, overpaid, and was prone to some dumb holding penalties but he was a solid piece overall.
