FA after draft

Looking at the depth chart, we should bring Cam back and I think we need a veteran CB / S and another C. Best CBs available are Lattimore ans Sneed . There are a couple of younger Centers out there and they may want to get a vet Kicker. Outside of that, we should embrace the youth movement.

lattimore has no place on this team nor does he fit not bringing back broken down, old, vets

Hopefully we can get a deal with Cam.
Def need a DB. Locked on brought up that Indy may cut Kenny Moore since they didn’t trade him. Would be a good buy low deal.
I’m fine with Smith at Kicker. I think that would be a waste.
A Center backup makes sense, but with Wright in the building you have both Ruiz and Simpkins that could fill in there.

You gotta be on drugs to bring Lattimore back

I saw that Ethan Pocic was not under contract with CLE but I have no idea if he is any good at this stage. I could see bringing in a guy who can play G and C and would be available on the cheap. I mostly like our OL if healthy, but it’s hard to count on our C to play a whole year. The most pressing concern for me, though is a nickel corner to help fill the hole left by Taylor leaving. I’d be willing to pay more to fill this hole.

What do you see on the depth chart that makes you want to bring Cam back? We would have to spend a decent chunk of money for him to be 3rd string and take minutes from developing/ unknown players.

All of this. I do think they will have competition for Charlie (maybe even more than just Shipley). I also think the selection of Wright is a signal that they are throwing down the gauntlet for Ruiz “get your shite together or you are gone”.
I don’t think I have ever seen Mickey call out a player by name in a post season presser like that. Ruiz, to his credit, even acknowledged that he needs to be better. Ross Jackson was pretty high on Wright from pretty early in the pre-draft process.
I also agree with you on Kenny Moore, I think that would be a good pickup, Nick Underhill has mentioned him as a possible STAR candidate.
I am curious to see what happens with Cam, he was all over the social media following the draft selections for the team……it seems to me that he is still bought in here. It’s more about the contract number obviously, but I don’t think his market shaped up quite the way he thought it would. So can he swallow his pride and do another incentive laden deal, which I believe is good for both sides.

Lattimore’s knee is shredded. Some just don’t get that bounce back in their step after an ACL. Corners lose 1/2 a step and it’s over.

The door is open for Cam.
Safety looks good to me.
It seems CKM likes Beanie and Dalys at CB more than we think.
Simpkins seems to be our new BU center.
PS
In all the "we need better starting corners" talk nothing is ever said about how f'ing old they are.

Let him play the Nickle Back.
Dude might have lost a step but probably can Fill in at Safety/NB in a pinch.

This is a easy one. How about the fact that he lead the team in sacks and there is zero replacements or even long-term prospects on the team currently? Carl Granderson already played more snaps than Cam and didn't produce the same. The developing/unknown players you're talking about taking minutes from are Chris Rumph and Tyree Wilson.

Can someone actually give me an explanation? Christen Miller/ Ridgeway can play both NT/ DT.
You have (6) with Godchaux/ Shepherd/ Bresee/ Ridgeway/ Miller/ Broughton.
You have (4) Young/ Granderson/ Tyree W/ Rumph.
Where is this space and opening for Cam? If we trade Shepherd then sure, otherwise its a waste of money. (And we don't have roster spots).
Replace Rumph? Bring in a young guy to compete with Rumph if that's the case.
The door looked like it shut by replacing him with a serious upside player in Tyree. Now finding a great replacement means he's more likely to come back?
Tyree/ Broughton/ Miller should be the "goodbye" moves for Cam/ Godchaux/ Shepherd.

Like lattimore when he was here. No need to go backwards. Though we need aCB we wont. Spend any real money until next year when the salary cap will be more friendly.

Just watched Loomis' post draft presser, and he absolutely said they wanted to try to get someone in to play star early, so I don't think they felt Blackmon is the total answer there, and I don't think they really feel they have the depth needed at the position either.
The starting outside corners proved to be fine last year. Sure we can always upgrade any position, but starting outside corner is not the one I think you need to start with.
But it's clear if we can add a guy with position versatility to play outside and star we absolutely would, but we definitely still need to grab someone that can play inside.

Lattimore is washed. Trading him to Washington was one of Loomis’s best recent moves. Don’t bring him back.

So y'all don't have a clue what you are talking about? The guy we just trade for IS the replacement AND long term prospect..

How about the fact that he lead the team in sack
Because of Chase Young and not having to start. Old Cam was Chase Young and could play high level the whole game. When you accept that he is a diminishing asset then this will be more clear.
Cam is also neither Cam's replacement or a long term prospect.

The guy from the Raiders will be playing Cams spot. It’s why they traded for him and wanted Thibodaux before him.

They had chances to address that in the early rounds but went other ways. I'm not saying they got it wrong because who knows right now?
Something I noticed is that teams would often move their best WR into the slot and that seemed to be the thing that gave the Saints the most problems defending the pass.
I mean Kool Aid got picked (on the boundary) early in the year but played better in the second half off the season.
I do think it had something to do with the teams they were playing weren't as good as they were on the early part of the schedule but to his credit he improved. He could have continued to struggle but he did not.
so, would the Saints try and get a player to play star or just have their best cover man travel with the opponent's best WR when he moves to the slot?
I know they got Styles and Hall late in the draft, but they seem like players who will start out on special teams mostly. I guess.

Chase Young was much more impactful than Cam

In Staley's scheme the outside corners stay outside, and Loomis very specifically mentioned wanting to address the star need but it just didn't fall that way.
He did say Styles is someone who could potentially play that spot, but obviously has a long way to go, and they mentioned Blackmon playing there when they brought him back, but I think that's more of a if all else fails and not plan A, B, or C.
Most of our corners fit more on the outside, but the depth there isn't good enough that you'd want any of them starting anyway, much less in the slot/star.
I think Hall also has potential to play that inside role better, but he wasn't asked about/brought up so I don't know how they view him. But he is also someone that you can't rely on to come in and take over that spot year 1.
FA was brought up and Loomis made it sound like through FA or trade, we definitely aren't done just because of who we drafted.
Sidenote: the other thing of note Loomis also said the numbers at positions need to be tweaked, and WR was specifically pointed out. We are definitely light at ILB and a bit at S as far as 90 man numbers. I don't think we bring in high end players at those spots, but expect to see some WRs and a couple of other positions (like OT, maybe HB and TE) get a bit trimmed for some other spots.
