Brees has played one bad game this season.

He had 120 yards vs the Vikings and this past week wasn’t the greatest game either. Not that Mahomes hasn’t had a great year but the media is so mind blown with everything he does, I can’t see him not winning it.

Sorry if this point has already been made, but:

I'd say Brees was closest to being the "MVP" in those 7-9 seasons. Atrocious defenses and very inconsistent running games. Those are 3-5 win teams without Drew.

Best player on the best team? Then he should have won in 2009. Bad idea for the NFL to not wait until the postseason is done.

However the NFL decides who wins MVP, it doesn't make sense for Brees to put up insane numbers and lose out to Rodgers due to Rodgers's efficiency (which is reasonable), then have Brees break the QBR record this season (currently at 120.8 despite the recent lull) and lose out to someone that puts up better numbers.

I really don't care if he ever wins an MVP, but the NFL needs some consistency.

It’s more than just pure stats because Brees already has had seasons like that and not won.
This cannot be said enough.

Everybody is so enamored with Mahomes, and his stats are a Fantasy Football wet dream. But the MVP is supposed to be about much more than just that. I think the MVP is Brees' to lose this year. Mahomes is challenging Brees, and not the other way around.

This is the best argument to make IMO.

Right. Based on that year, if he breaks the record for rating and completion percentage and doesn’t win it, they can all fry in hell as far as I’m concerned.

It is. The issue is the discrepancy of touchdowns and the media.

Brees hits 40 TDs and I think that can offset the difference. The story of a season with '40+ TDs with the least interceptions ever', the record breaking things, and all that will outweigh Mahomes very gaudy and impressive #s

If Saints finish 3-0 and Brees stat line is:

900 yards
10 TDs
1 INT
120 Rating

Award is his.

If we drop a game and he continues to post 100-200 yard games it goes to Mahomes.

Just forget it, man.

Why do individual awards mean so damn much to people these days? I root for the laundry, not the person. I want the Saints to be World Champions. I don't care whether the QB is the GOAT or just a regular Billy Kilmer.

I root for the laundry. Period.

Don't care at all. MVP is a popularity contest and if Brees played for New York or Dallas with the same numbers and wins, he'd have three.

This is correct.

Absolutely this.

How many years did Brees lose out to someone with far less yards & TD’s? And now all of a sudden that’s what makes an MVP? Nah.
