NOLA.COM article

quote:

Signing bonus: $4 million

Total guaranteed: $6.5 million

2019 Base salary: $2 million (guaranteed)

2020 Base salary: $4 million ($500,000 guaranteed)

2021 Base salary: $5 million

quote:

but Murray could make up to $1.5 million in performance incentives from, which is something Ingram’s deal doesn’t include.

...

Murray received $7.2 million guaranteed compared to Ingram’s $6.5 million guaranteed. All of the guaranteed money comes in the first two years for both players.

Bizarre. There had to be something else involved in Ingram's decision to leave.

His agent massively fricked up and we moved on quickly because of it.

Ingram is his agent's only active NFL player. Mark's agent blew it and we moved on.

I still think MI being 30 factored into what the Saints were willing to pay.

Him and Murray are the same age, less than a month apart. Murray got more guaranteed and his numbers are not quite as good as Ingram who has been with this team as a rookie. I don't get this, I think Mark Ingram's agent fricked up here.

I agree that this is really the only explanation. With the Bell signing going down, the Saints FO moving on to cover their asses, and him taking the best offer left on the table. I don't believe that the FO had issues with Ingram because of the suspension, and I don't believe that Ingram was that concerned with being a feature back elsewhere.

It just sucks because the end result is Ingram is a Raven because of an agent's incompetence. Not saying that Murray won't be a good add, but I will miss Ingram.

Pretty much. Kind of odd how it all went down.

Is this like the show 'Entourage', where Ingram hired his childhood friend to be his agent?

Mark, I think it might be time to get a new agent. Based on all the facts...somebody screwed up bad. My money is on the agent that has 1 client.

Playing time. He wants to be the main guy. I don't blame him for that.

Not really bizarre at all.

Ingram wants to test the markets (likely wanting more money than the Saints are willing to pay)

The Saints say ok, we'd like to have you back but go see what you can get.

In the mean time Murray's agent calls Saints and his player is looking for a contract similar to what they would pay Ingram. Similar players (they feel)

They get into talks with Murray as a backup plan then realize other teams are looking at Murray.

Ingram is still shopping so they decide to pull the trigger on Murray before they lose out on both Ingram and Murray.

Ingram realizes he will not get the kind of offer he expected and now his insurance plan has closed the door. Decreasing his negotiation strength.

Ingram settles for the best contract he can get which just happens to be in the ball park the Saints were originally offering.

Never underestimate these players agents ability to frick them by making them believe they are worth more than they are, but it's a game in and of itself and the agents are trying to get as big a piece of the pie as they can for themselves.

Can't be said enough. He was a backup here and during the playoffs only went in the game to spell AK.

no mystery to it at all, his new agent came in with stupid demands and pout it as take it or leave it deal. so the saints signed his replacement and said good luck on the open market.

other teams may have offered more had his agent kept the saints in negotiations but once the saints said goodbye, ingrams worth plummeted as an out of work aging RB

shite, Lamar jackson alone averaged 17 carries a game in his 7 starts. That’s 272 carries extrapolated over 16 games. Gus Edwards and Dixon are still around and Harbaugh has favored the time share. This may not go as Ingram and his agent planned

It was MI last chance big pay off contract and he took it.Its too bad he lost but it is what it is. He is no Deuce or Colston imo who had more conscious loyalty to the end. It sucks for the fans and players. That was his rub for a lot of fans here in Louisiana.

Murray has 4 years compared to Mark's 3 though, so if you look at guarantees per year Mark got the better end.

Also gives Baltimore an out after 1 year (or 2) and Mark would still be young enough to get another decent contract.

Without seeing Murray's full contract I can't be sure, but it could be Mark was looking to get one more contract after this and didn't want the 4th year. We likely wanted the 4th year to spread the hit.

Contracts aren't just about short term, and Mark may be betting on himself to get one more decent deal after Baltimore.
