Dane Brugler from The Athletic ranks the Saints draft as #10 on his list of "Best Drafts"

10. New Orleans Saints
Favorite pick: Christen Miller, DT, Georgia
Summary: Jordyn Tyson is going to become an immediate weapon, and Oscar Delp should become a better pro than college player. But Miller was my favorite pick because of the steadying presence he’ll bring to New Orleans’ defensive line. Opponents will learn about his violent play style very quickly.
Day 3 pick who could surprise: Bryce Lance, WR, North Dakota State
The Saints revamped their wide receiver depth chart in the draft. Lance is still unpolished in areas, so I don’t expect him to be a high-volume target early. With his vertical speed and size, though, it won’t be surprising if he puts up early touchdown numbers.

His ranking system of "draft hauls" advantages teams who had more picks, and SIX of the 9 in front of us had two first round picks. Saints did pretty good.

Lance is athletic as hell with a 9.95 RAS (23rd highest RAS for a WR all-time)
and he had solid production at NDSU

I'm totally jazzed by this draft. Looking forward to see how Moore will put it together.
In other news, looking at McVay's face when the GM for the Rams took Ty Simpson, priceless.

And Oscar Delp had a 9.83 RAS, which is 26th highest for a TE all time.

Lorenzo Styles Jr. 9.99 ras score.

So that advantage aside, being ranked in basically the top 4 of those without multiple 1sts is pretty damn good, but we also had a top 10 pick so that also skews people's perceptions.
I'd like to see someone rank these classes on potential and fit (not necessarily need as most do), and do so without the bias of the "expert rankings".

Would not be surprised to see Styles grow into the Taylor role.
Lance was my favorite pick. Did not think he would be there in the 4th due to his size and speed.

Wait, you want them to actually analyze the players, teams, schemes and fits, then put together a concrete review of the results? That is asking way too much for people that's entire profession revolves around being professional sports analysts.

He's gonna be a work in progress, but it's not like he's a 1 year wonder so I'm hopeful he can con tribute next year. We can move on from Vele

You know what I liked about this draft? All the selections made sense and none of them were WTF reaches. It's been a nice departure from the Payton drafts.

Why would we move on from one of the bright spots from last year?

Once his contract is up, sure maybe you let him go and replace him with someone cheaper, but currently there is zero reason to cut Vele. He came up HUGE time and again last year on third downs and clutch time catches.
He costs $1.1 mil this year and $1.2 mil next year. You really cannot get cheaper for what he produced, only about match it.

people are stupid cause they mad vele trade was actually good.
bub means
kevin austin
dante pettis
mason tipton
brandin cooks
these are all the names we are moving away from.
Olave
Tyson
Vele
Bryce Lance
then competition opens further with your Polk/means/brown/palmer/bell and so on.

100% agree with Chad!
Throw in Delp and we suddenly have a good, young core of offensive weapons. Hopefully it all comes to fruition.

I think it’s still to be determined. We drafted three receivers. He’s cheap and has size so I’m sure he’s safe. But we had to sink major draft capital into the receiver position this draft. A first, two fourths and a sixth.
If we traded our 3rd for Pickens last year, doubtful we’d have burned our first on Tyson this draft.

Nothing about Vele is still to be determined.

Actually add Ellis and pretty much any other FA we signed, since Pickens is hard on the cap for like $28 mil. All of our FAs add up to less than that on the cap this year.

He’s been told about cap implications repeatedly and still won’t shut the frick up

It's the oddest thing to ignore because it's the clearest thing to see.
