So you pick and choose. The Saints let guys go and are criticized but the Chiefs do it and it’s fine. Got it

Ehhh, if we were indeed going to cut bait with Carr/Dalton/Winston and start the 3rd rounder in 2023, the age/maturity thing is something of a plus.

Regardless, I was intrigued with the idea of going that route regardless of which QB you drafted in the 3rd (or even 2nd) and doing a total rebuild. I like the Carr deal other than the fact it seems to be putting too much faith in Allen to turn it around.

No, it’s not. Paying this much for a mediocre quarterback strongly correlates with mediocre team performance. Wouldn’t this be a top 10 (maybe even top 5) QBs contract in the league?

Even NFL GMs don’t seem to understand the principle that actual value should not be completely a function of past performance and market value is not driven by someone willing to pay a certain price, and that market values do not necessarily go up in a linear fashion year over year.

Find cheap talent at the QB position, your best shot is to develop a talent, and in the meantime save up your chips to take a shot at the top 4-5 at the position if they become available.

I get it.

Quarterbacks aren't cheap we know this there's nothing exciting about this but I guess I don't totally hate it.

Just said this in another thread but don't you think it's goofy that the Saints had their best game of the season last year going against Carr when we won 24-0

What about all the picks we did sign?

Ak
MT (back when he played)
Peat
McCoy
Ram
Latt
Ony (first resigning)
Cam Jordan
MI (his first resigning)
Jimmy Graham
PJ Williams
Armstead's first resigning
Thomas Morstead

All resigned while in "cap hell".

Not to mention all the free agents when "the Saints ain't got no money".

Why are you focusing on the guys they chose not to keep?

It would be 9th today, without Jones, Jackson, Lawrence, Burrow, Hurts, Tua, or Fields signing extensions yet.

Most likely this won’t even be a top 15 QB contract by next offseason.

that's what people don't understand the market is moving and this won't even be a top 15 contract next year

I get what you are saying, and I agree, but this list needs to be only guys expecting to sign this year. Future years, we know will push him down.

I know the nerd stats say Marcus Williams was good but meh

You don't have to rely on stat nerds to realize marcus williams is an elite free safety.

No one in the league covers the ground he does. The saints' defense looked totally different without him.

Until Mathieu hit his stride. They looked better later in the year.

Well in that case, he is somewhere in the ballpark of 25th this year. OTC is projecting his 2023 Cap hit as $7.5M.
