Too bad we had to lose Kamara and Ram and MT13 and Lattimore and McCoy and Peat and those other guys we drafted.

You can’t keep everyone. Now I would have rather not signed Taysom to such a high contract, would have rather kept Vonn Bell and CJGJ and traded M. Williams a year earlier. But that’s disagreeing with the moves, not the strategy.

To compete you either have to trade away draft picks, sign FAs (which we have to pay more because we are a small market team) or luck up with a generational QB in the draft (who you will eventually have to pay and lose your complementary pieces anyway) don’t act like we are the only team above the cap.

The alternative is going back to the Benson days of the 90s when we didn’t resign anyone and brought in broken down has-beens. I’ll take competing for playoffs any day!

If we bring MT13 back, and draft a RB early…I’ll take Olave, Shaheed, MT13, Taysom, Gibbs and Kamara over what the Dolphins have. Also, I’m not sure you want to hang your hat on Mike McDaniels just yet. Is he better than DA? Yes. But you act like there’s an astronomical divide like if they had Big Red or BB or McVay over there

Flacco only made 4mil when the ravens win and his career earnings are 30 million less than the guaranteed money on Carr’s deal

Stafford is closer to Carr than Foles but the rams were a playoff team the year before he joined and now they are dog shite. They sold out for one season and it paid off. The Saints aren’t in a position for that.

Thats in the ballpark of others

Per nick

So, $37.5 million per year. Not bad. Reasonably priced.

Derek Carr -- $37.5 million
Kirk Cousins -- $35 million
Jared Goff -- $33.5 million
Ryan Tannehill -- $29.5 million

Dont be reasonable buddy. Saints Talk is still stuck in 2015 and thinks above average/good QB's are supposed to get 20 million a season.

That’s not the point. The Ravens weren’t exactly bursting with young talent with Flacco on offense. Anyway, the point was that less than stellar QBs can win and have won before.

what roster restrictions have we seen from this supposed "cap hell"?

People have been talking about us being in cap hell since 2012 and we still haven't seen it.

He got a market fair deal. the cap will continue to go up as well.

Derek Carr -- $37.5 million
Kirk Cousins -- $35 million
Jared Goff -- $33.5 million
Ryan Tannehill -- $29.5 million

David Onyamata (likely)
Michael Thomas (likely, but understandable)

4 years with 100 million guaranteed. He won’t get the full 150. That’s probably a lot of fake numbers to make the agent look good. If I had to guess it’s probably more a three year deal for 100.

Looks like I nailed it. Some details are coming out now.

So while it’s technically a four-year, $150 million deal, it’s at best a three-year, $100 million deal. The fourth year is a device aimed simply at driving the average from $33.3 million per year to $37.5 million — since he reportedly was looking for at least $35 million per year.

Very unlikely that he gets the 37.5 a year. I thought he should only get 30 at most so we overpaid.

Exactly. Hell, the Chiefs just had to trade away an All Pro WR because they couldn’t pay him. Then had a remarkably good draft that helped them tremendously. The cap means something but not everything. You can’t sign everyone especially if you’re a team that consistently hits on picks. No one consistently has a loaded roster. That’s why there’s so much parity in the league.

If the Saints hit on their draft picks in the next 2-4 years, we will be fine.

Because they're paying a QB1 market rate and a TE like a WR1

The question is if they can sign them.

you can't give everyone top 5 money.

quote:

Trey Hendrickson

we thought we had depth

quote:

Marcus Williams

replaceable position

quote:

CJGJ

shouldn't even be listed we were never entertaining the money he wanted no matter what the cap was.

quote:

Armstead

staff seemed fine letting him go he only played 5 games a year anyway

quote:

Marcus Davenport (likely)

not worth it no matter how you look at it.

quote:

David Onyamata (likely)

this one would suck

quote:

Michael Thomas (likely, but understandable)

i'm ready to get out of this contract.

Best option currently available. Reasonable price tag. Happy with it. We should be much more competitive assuming the defense will remain at least decent. We are now favorites to win the division.

Chauncey was always a luxury. Part of the reason for letting Hendrickson walk was that Davenport looked good that year Hendrickson broke out too. It was a foregone conclusion both he and Williams were gonna chase money. You can’t keep everyone, no matter how much cap space you have
