Surprised James Washington is nowhere to be found in his mock draft.

No way he drops out of the top half of the draft unless he puts up terrible numbers st the combine and flunks the interviews.

Yup. The last two successful drafts have given us the ability to go BPA this year. Hell, we can even trade back and acquire more picks.

The more picks we acquire the better we are set up to draft our next franchise QB in the next 2-3 years.

Would be nice. If he drops having done your homework the Saints should know which way to go. Lattimore dropped and we chose wisely

I guess the big question at that point would be, why the drop?

Think about this, though: is there really a lot of room on the roster currently (and especially post-FA) for a large amount of draft picks? I don't think so.

Really the strength of this draft is going to be on Day 2 (round 2+3). It's weak at the bottom and weak at the top. I'd have no problem if the Saints wanted to package what we have at the bottom to come up into 2-3 and just come out of this draft with 3-5 solid guys rather than a bunch that we're going to have to cut.

I've started to see some talking heads now talking about Smith not necessarily having ideal size. Could have something to do with it. I've seen Edmunds getting a lot more hype at around the spots that people were pegging for Smith originally.

He's my No. 1 pick and I would lose my shite if he falls to us at 27. However, does he have the football IQ?

He is literally the same size and style of player as Debo Jones. Their sideline to sideline and coverage skills are nasty.

No and it's why I think they're going to take the 2016 approach.

Quality, not quantity.

Obtaining 3 starting caliber guys and this draft is a win.

1st
3rd
4th
2 5ths
2 6ths
7th

4th (~40 value)
2 5ths (~60 value combined)
2 6ths (~40 value combined)

You're looking at possibly doing something like
4th and 2 5ths -> 3rd
3rd and 2 6ths -> higher 3rd

1st, 3rd, 3rd, 7th

Should this scenario unfold what positions do you figure we draft?

LB, SS, TE/WR, DL/CB?

I don’t think he falls to us either, but LBs can go low in the draft.

Last year Haason Reddick went at 13, Jarrad Davis went at 21, Takkarist McKinley went at 26, TJ Watt went at 30 and Reuben Foster went at 31.
In 2016 two LBs went the first day at 9 and 20 with five of the first ten picks in the second round being LBs.
In 2015, only three LBs went in the first round. Bud Dupree went 22, Shaq Thompson went 25 and Stephon Anthony was 31st

I honestly don't think it'd be a 1,3,3,7 but the potential is definitely there to do it.

I could see it more like
1, 3, 3, 5, 7

Hard to predict because it's going to depend on free agency, they like to fill voids and go with bpa.
