He benched Drew Bledsoe. He led the league in yards, was an all-pro, pro bowler, etc

In what world is it logical to bench Brees at halftime of a tie game?

In what world is it logical to stick with a guy who cannot pass the ball 15 yards down the field while everyone and their dead grandmother knows it? It was the biggest game of the year and Sean was afraid to make adjustments.

Payton did not have the heart to Bench Drew Brees halfway through his swan song and I can't say that I blame him. Besides, the final turning point came later in the third quarter when Cook fumbled. We were in control until then.

The real world, the one where Drew won 10 starts this year despite his limitations. Very few people here wanted Drew benched before they knew his rotator cuff was torn, his performance was adequate most games even with the injury.

The word legendary was used, in no way, shape or form is Drew Bledsoe legendary.

more people are going to remember the end of Brees' career and hanging on too long and the playoff failure than the good parts of his career

Final 4 years of his career

41-13 record
72.8% completion
106 TDs
23 INTs
14k+ yards

“Playoff failures”

Two of the four losses consisted of the MIN miracle and Rams no call. That’s at least a NFCCG and another SB appearance wiped from his legacy

No one is going to give a shite that a 41 year old QB with multiple injuries played like arse this year

Neither of those players had played 15 years for Bama. You don’t bench your legendary QB. He’s earned the right to go out on his own terms.

Bull shite. It’s called fiduciary responsibility, chappo. Look it up

and then not being able to throw the ball 20 yards

exactly

people are going to remember that more than anything

WE won't, but the general public will

agreed, and in outlier fashion 3/4 years. hence why it will be so memorable for his history

This right here is the epitome of what’s wrong in society today. You’re more worried about hurting someone’s feelings than doing what’s best for the team. I love Brees, but if he couldn’t get the job done then Winston should have been put in to give this team a chance to move forward and get the win. The Bucs knew that Brees couldn’t throw downfield and they stacked the box waiting for the 3 yard screen pass . Hell every time he threw it there were 3 Bucs waiting to shut it down. frick everyone’s “feelings” including Brees. You play to win !

To be fair, it’s not a slam dunk jameis would have played more reliably and it would’ve created massive controversy had he come in and squeezed out a win with an “ok” performance.

It has to dramatically move the needle to welcome in the sideshow.

I think the real issue goes back to choosing taysom in November, when we knew he couldn’t be a super bowl qb. I don’t know where jameis is today but it might’ve bought drew more time to heal up if he was able to play the position respectably

Brady also took over due to massive injury and was playing decent while Bledsoe was 5-13 over his 18 prior starts.

If drew was losing at that rate it’s a lot easier to justify sticking with Teddy or a backup this year even after injuries healed

Id agree if Brees didnt lead us to a 2nd half scoring drive to take the lead, and then get us started on another almost scoring drive until cook fumbled.

Yeah the loss isn’t on Drew at all, really. It’s on Cook. Then Drew had to force throws and his receivers were fricking up leading to INT’s that y’all are excoriating him about

Say what u want about Winston but I guarantee he would have thrown more than 134 yards, even if he did somehow throw 3 ints like Brees....

Then again I would have never wanted to take Brees out in a possible last game of his career

You win the internet. Coaches don’t like being thought of as a fool by the football world, so they play it safe even if in their gut they know better.

I also agree he should have been benched for Winston.

I also believed he should have been benched last half the of the game against Minnesota last year because he did not have it that game, and Taysom was almost unstoppable that game.

2 years in a row I believe he should have been benched in our most crucial games, and for 2 different QBs. That means we held on too long. I love Drew Brees and everything he has done, but this game is not about feelings.

Then you are dumb, if Cook doesn’t fumble Brees leads back to back scoring drives to start the 2nd half and we win.

The story all year long as that Winston didn't have the brains to run the playbook. The playbook is for Brees with a helping for Hill (who didn't exactly light it on fire when he tried to run plays not designed for him).

If we are going to ride with Winston next year, SP is going to redesign the playbook, with simpler plays that play more to his natural talent, and less to his decision skills (or lack thereof).

The reality is, I think a broken Brees this Sunday was better than a healthy Winston.
