3/14/2006 Drew Brees signs a six year $60 million contract with the Saints. He would announce his retirement 15 years to the day the Saints signed him.

Crazy to think his contract was $60mil/6yrs with the way money is thrown around today.

I know he resigned for a much bigger contract but in 2006 $60 million for a QB was big money. Today that's almost backup money.

That $10M average puts him in line with Sam Darnold and just over Bryce Young

SFP beleives that this is still standard qb pay.

Tank and draft a rookie qb to pay.

Or sign Andy Dalton, Mayfield blah blah

The first game that I saw him play in person was the Bengals in 2006 we lost the game but he made an incredible throw on that flea flicker to Joe horn the throw beat triple coverage

Saban’s parting gift to Louisiana.

____________________________________________________________________

Can you imagine what would happen had Brees signed with the Dolphins ??

Would Saban stay with Dolphins?

Would Alabama have their National Championships ?
Would LSU win the 2012 Championship ??

Would Saints ever make a Super Bowl ??

Would Payton be considered a good coach ??

Brees playing in the AFC East , would Tom Brady have a chance to win additional Super Bowls?

Would Brees put up the numbers that he did ??

Opinions vary, but would Brees be one of the best FA signings in NFL history?

I think it’s safe to say that Brees would have found success anywhere. The dude is one of the GOATs. Payton has done squat since Brees left. Would be easy to say that Brees made him and could have probably made anyone a good coach. Him and saban would have won.

The cap was $100 mil when Brees signed that deal and you think that’s an apples to apples comp to contracts today

no it wasnt that, they offered him and incentive filled contract, we just gave him a little more money without all those incentives needed to get paid.

its fairer to say the dolphins didnt value him as much as we did, or they werent as sure he was still going to play all that good after his injury

It's crazy to think he signed 6/60 and by the time 20 years passes by QBs will be playing for 60 a year.
