re: Zion extension close to done per Shams, deal includes protections

I hope there is an injury clause in there like Philly used with Embid. Without a doubt there was never any question about giving him the max though. He’s worth it as long he’s on the floor and it seems he’s maturing right before our eyes. I think a lot of fans gave him a harder time than he deserved. He was just a kid coming into the league I know I wasn’t ready to handle being a multi millionaire off on my own at 19.

Still waiting to see what protections actually are. From listening to the podcasts he’s done Griff made it sound like he prefers the no option on the 5th year more than anything else also.

I would have preferred the No PO to the injury protections. Injury protections actually don’t do us a whole lot of good.
We don't have that detail yet. Someone said they heard it but didn't cite a source. I'm not seeing that mentioned on twitter so I don't think that's a fact in evidence yet, unless he was giving Zion a cab ride or something.

Yeah, I think that there's a reason that Woj hasn't tweeted about it yet. I wonder if Shams jumped the gun a bit and there's still more details to work out.

Why don’t injury protections do the Pels any good ?

Woj is worried about breaking the big news not this stuff. Ricky Rubio is returning to Cleveland.

Pretty sure it’s that you can’t TRADE for two guys on those types of contracts.
that is correct and is why with Simmons on the roster the nets have very few options among “all star” players if they don’t also move Simmons
Ingram went to RFA first (his deal is technically not an extension)

This really is worst case scenario for Brooklyn
Again
Houston gonna feast

How does that work with someone like CP3?
EDIT: ah nvm, I see it. Rookie deals

Because Zion will still have a gigantic cap hit either way. It will save ownership a few million but does nothing for the team

Because you can't add in too much protection or Zion wouldn't sign it, so all the protections really do is save a little money if the worst case scenario happens.
No option on the 5th year is better for the team. Injury protections are better for the owner.

Teams are cuffed. We don't give it to him, a team like NY will just go hard for him later.

anyway, this thread is about zion not durant
about zion:
about zion:

Zion was the best finisher in the NBA at 20yo in 66 games in 2020. 96th percentile as P&R ball handler. 98th in post ups. 97th in isolation. Zion can be your no. 1 option big man AND your no. 1 option point guard. Freak of nature doesn’t begin to describe it.

Sources are telling me that Pelicans MAX offer includes protection stipulating Zion cannot use Interstate 10 at any point within 30 miles of New Orleans.

And now he's in better shape, has added a killer midrange jumpshot, and is going to be a plus defender instead of a defensive liability.
MVP
Zion is +6000 for MVP on Caesars. I might do a bit of that

Honestly it's just some dude on twitter who doesn't know shite speculating about the PO.

No kyrie...no KD....but Ben Simmons + others they receive off of those 2 guys getting unloaded...
why do ppl automatically think they will tank? Seems like they may be more balanced after getting rid of both of them....and there's also a world where KD isn't moved....soooooooooo

I don't think they're gonna tank. They will probably still get some solid hauls
