Shades of the Dwight Howard / Andrew Bynum trade where at least three of the four teams got worse.

Philly never had Bynum hit the court.

LA crapped out with a Kobe Howard Nash core.

Orlando got middling pieces for Howard.

Denver got Iggy but later lost him to Golden State.

don't know about this penalty, 2 games for missing a flight. I don't know how late he was. He makes 600k a game. So thats a 1.2M penalty. He can charter a plane for less than 50k last minute. It'd be different if he missed the game or other activities. That just seems harsh and excessive..

Do you think this is only about being late this one time??

Would have to think the facilitating team would be someone like the Jazz.

Gotta be Detroit, they’re the only ones that can take on dead salary in order to facilitate this for everyone since everyone of those teams are in the tax.

This works financially:

Miami: Middleton, THJ

Milwaukee: Lavine

Suns: Butler

Chicago: Beal, Portis

Pistons: Pat Williams, Connaughton

Just add in draft compensation where needed.

The Wizards are $11.9M under the tax and have a $12M TPE
The Jazz are $27M under the tax and have a $6.4M TPE and two $3M TPE's. TPE's cannot be combined though. The Jazz can send out Eubanks ($5M) to a team with a TPE, and take back in $10.2M from the Bucks are Heat (Connaughton $9.4M)
The Blazers can absorb $5M through a TPE and stay under the tax.

But yes Detroit make the most sense.

Remember that us, the Cavs, and the Clippers are all just a hair over the tax line and it's very likely those other two teams will make a small move to get under the tax, and we obviously will do something to get under it.

So we have about a week left before we start seeing some action, unless Butler is moved before then

I’m curious as to when teams start saying “frick it” and making deals in spite of Butler.

At a point, deals to get under the cap have to be in and executed. If the Butler deal goes down to the wire, teams risk being stuck paying because they missed their chance.

Wouldn’t be the first time we lost trades at the deadline because we couldn’t get them cleared by the league office in time.

That would be beyond terrible. Losing BI and CJ, having to take on Beal’s deal, all for two horrible firsts in the 20’s? Pass

I wouldn’t hate having Bradley Beal the basketball player.
But what’s the point of taking on his contract when you can give BI a contract that’s significantly smaller? I don’t see a big difference between the two guys.

That’s a horrendous trade for the Pels, and no way is Beal waiving his no trade clause to come here anyway.

Horrible trade, and he wouldn’t waive it to come here anyway.

Heat will have to suck it up and take him if they want to get rid of Jimmy.

Miami gets off the hook for an aging cancer and give up nothing is the laughable part.

Jovic and some picks from them better be involved

My only thought on saying yes to it would be to try to find a sucker like Milwaukee or someone that would take Beal just for expiring salary. There would be a team out there that talks themselves into taking him in the offseason with 2 years left on his contract. We wouldn’t get any assets more than likely, but that would be a best case scenario from that situation.

Some commenters also said Detroit should send a 1st instead of 2nds which I would agree with, we would then be getting 3 1sts.

Right? We take a significant talent downgrade for middling picks and leave ourselves with no way to improve. That's the problem with all these complicated, multi-team trade ideas. The trade has to help every team involved, not just your own favorite team.

Absolutely terrible. No way would I take on Beal for BI and CJ and only get back picks that likely will be later in the draft. Pass.

Yeah I’d gladly do that trade. 2 first and 3 seconds for CJ and BI is fine. I’d try to get 1 more first for being the team to have Beals contract but I’m cool with this. We aren’t getting anything better than that.

Exactly… I don’t see why this is so bad. You get off of some expensive players you don’t want anyway for 3 firsts and you get a tank commander in Beal who you can flip for salary relief. Then you can roll with your younger guys and you have another pick in this deep draft. Seems good to me.

According to the new Fanspo update, this trade doesn’t work financially…

Detroit has to send out 9.6mil more.
