Detroit is not giving up Beasley for Duncan Robinson.
They are over .500 and will make the playoffs, and Beasley is their 3rd best player. Milwaukee was stupid to let him go last year. He is what every team wants as their 6th man scorer.
they can abosrb Duncan Robinson while sending out someone else not contributing to their team.
I said it before, Detroit is going to be looking to get better with their cap space, not just use it to gain draft capital and absorb a bad contract. As a worse case they would use it to absorb a bad contract if the price was right, and they aren't giving up anythign to do so.
And why would we take on Brook Lopez, somoene who might actually make us a bit better this year? We aren't trying to win games with whatever trade we make to get under the cap.

I would assume the Pels would then put Lopez on waivers, but I agree, that deal makes no sense for Detroit.

Yall keep saying this when the team is telling you something different this year.

no they aren't.
We just played the 6 of our last 7 games against teams either not trying to win or they have several key injuries. We have 3 more out of our next 4 like that. January was the easiest month of the year for us by a wide margin, and we got a little healthy for it too.
After those 4 games, 30 of the last 34 are against playoff teams. We'll win probably 12-15 games from here on out, and that would be doing kind of good if we went 15-23, and we'd still end up in the 7th spot most likely.

Yeah thankfully this schedule goes back to being more challenging (barring any injuries). Deadline needs to get here asap. If we don’t trade anyone outside of BI, I’m giving up on this franchise being serious about anything other than being mediocre

I can see CJ being in demand at the trade deadline. He has been playing really well and is a true professional. I am not sure what any of the playoff teams needs but CJ is a scorer.
BI I am not sure, I hope we can move him from something.
Anyone else would depend on the offer,
If we are going to keep the core of Zion, Trey, Herb, DJ, Messi. we need to get rid of BI and CJ.

Detroit can send out whoever they want in the deal, Beasley would be the difference in them getting a 1st round pick for the salary take on or getting 2nds though. Also Duncan gives them another high level shooter in the same tier as Beasley.
Also remember their pick is top 13 protected, they may want to make the play in but lose in it to still be in that 12-13th draft slot.

He’s an expiring deal. You either try to move him before the deadline for a couple of 2nds or buy him out. We have to take salary back in the deal.

Beasley is more than just a shooter like Duncan.
They aren't trading him just to get a 1st out of him.

They want to win, and I'm sure they'd rather get that pick over with this year. Next year it is top 11 protected if it doesn't convey this year and top 9 protected the next year. That pick is kind of hamstringing them from trading mulitple picks in the future, only slightly but it's an aggravating scenario to trade around. I would imagine Detroit wants to take the next step next year and challange for a 1st round victory, meaning they might be looking to trade picks to find another guy to go with Cade.

Yeah i didn't think about just cutting him, assuming we got some picks back to take him, although we should be getting at leats 2 1sts back for moving BI.
Posted on 1/23/25 at 3:29 pm to TeddyPadillac
2 1sts for an expiring BI kind of depends on what picks they are.
I wouldn’t be surprised if any of the three picks Utah just sent out would come back to us because those are likely late firsts. Better than nothing but not huge value.
I don’t think Milwaukee has any to send out, Detroit isn’t sending any out. Miami could.

If you're getting anything worthwhile for him, it's going to have to be a team that he will agree to sign with. That's going to be a tough one since that didn't happen over the summer and the likelihood anything has changed since is probably slim. And he's probably in no hurry to get out of here since he can control where he lands in the summer.
The thing about Siakam was Indiana was chasing him for over a season. Not sure there's a team in the league doing the same with Ingram.

Siakim plays a different role and won a championship. While it’s certainly the stance you take if you’re the Pelicans, I just don’t think it’s analogous

Any picks are better than nothing at this point. I’m just pointing out the level of picks likely available.
Getting some picks and then coming in just under the tax are realistic. Getting a piece and potentially flipping them for other picks or a piece is also realistic.

That deal makes more sense for both the Bucks and Bulls.

Would have to think the facilitating team would be someone like the Jazz.
Posted on 1/24/25 at 12:12 pm to TechTiger
I think they did their facilitating already by turning three shite picks into Phoenix’s 2031 pick.
Posted on 1/24/25 at 12:26 pm to Soggymoss
Woof, I think I hate that for everyone. I’m trying to figure out who wins that trade and I think I’ve settled on the unknown facilitator receiving unknown/unwanted salary + unknown draft capital.
Then again, this is probably the best the Heat can hope for at this point

Make no mistake, the Suns are drastically better with Jimmy Butler. As are the Bucks with LaVine. Middleton has been a shell of himself, looks like a different human being half the time.
