On Windy pod he said people in New Orleans have told him that Zion has lost at least 25 pounds since December.

Add this with him taking a leadership role lately, and I think we are seeing the maturity and coming out party for Zion.

Is this a coincidence that it pretty much coincided with the birth of his daughter? Having a kid matures you pretty quick.

CJ had a quote from after the Portland game about the Clippers game where he said Zion told him he needed to be Portland CJ and score and they would facilitate. I think that’s even bigger than Zion and Ingram seeming to defer to each other when the other is hot recently.

It seems to me that Zion really is maturing, finally. I hope that’s the case.

This thread is a roller coaster.

Anywho, Zion looks the best we have seen him body wise imo.

My question is what changed mid-season for him to get into better shape? What's he doing differently?

A few weeks back there was some media comments about rumblings about how much work he was putting in over the AllStar break.

I dismissed it because what can you really get done during that time?

But its very clear he has been working his arse off.

Personally, I think it was the embarrassment in Vegas at the In Season Tournament

as well as it has to also be in partnership with a dietary plan. he can't do one without the other and have this type of success.

Correct.

Also let's give the new Head Athletic Trainer some credit. It certainly appears that some of her methods for the entire team are working

Absolutely fricking incredible

My question is why doesn't he try to do that on non-lobs?

He needs to get more aggressive dunking the ball instead of laying it in, and I think he's been doing that more lately

It reduces wear and tear on knees. Very important at his size.

I think he should pick and choose his spots. Its what smart players like the previous poster said do to decrease wear and tear. Plus its 2 points either way- so who cares.

I think, other than on fast breaks, he jumps forward more than upward, to handle the contact better and deliver the blow instead of taking it. On fast breaks and uncontested dunks, he jumps for maximum height. He used to just always jump as high as he could, which left a lot more room for injuries and hard landings.

I wonder how much money it would take for Brian Windhorst to lose 25 pounds.

gotta tell ya, he looks good. Like, best in a Pels uniform. Looks slim, quick, and has his hops back. I think he could play 40 mins in the playoffs if needed.

How sad is it that it took him about 75% of the season to get there

Some of you guys just want to wallow in misery. He's 23 years old, had meddling parents and a multi-year blood feud going with the team's head medical professional. As long as he stays healthy and it doesn't take him 75% of the season next year, it's all water under the bridge and part of the process.

If we have to go through this again next year, it's back to darkness my old friend. For now we should focus on the best Pelicans basketball we've seen in years.

Oh. NEXT year will be the one that’s finally different.
