Even if they did have sets for Zion, you won't see it in preseason. We were also playing a division opponent, they are going to keep it vanilla regardless.

At the end of the day, the concern is their tendency to fall back into the slow iso and the signature here's the ball... Go gets us a bucket type of offense when things gets tough. They need to trust the system and not fall back into those 1 on 1 style basketball they're so comfortable with.

Everyone wants the ball in Zion's hands and we saw some of that against Orlando. We'll get more creative with the way he gets the ball in the regular season.

None of this has anything to do with the piss poor effort they gave last night, top to bottom.

Point Z is the best version of this team. Why run it ad nauseum in the pre season if we know it works?

you mean why practice what you're going to play in the real games?

It's not like it's a secret and you're saving it for 1 game.
It's an 82 game season. Everyone knows what you are going to do offensively. Just do it.

Correct, but it's also not what this thread is about.

this is what is worrisome to me.
When you see stuff like that, it usually means there's some serious unhappiness going on. Hopefully they just had too much fun the night before at the strip club or something and came out shitty.

I also wonder if the lack of effort from Zion has to do with the lack of involvement. Does that make him a baby? Maybe, but he's a league destroying baby when you give him the ball. I get why the coaches and FO may want BI to be the leader of this team, but it really only works if Zion is driving.

This is good film for the team though.

Hey remember when you didn't get Zion the ball at all? We lost by 30 to the rockets.

Get him the fricking ball

Why design an offense around a part time player?

The rockets do not have a better roster than the Pelicans. That’s crazy talk.

That's hard. They don't have the top end players we do, which is what matters most in the NBA. They do have a deep team now with some freakishly talented players.

If you combined the rosters and picked out the top 15 players (value wise). 9 of them are Rockets players. So I could see an argument where they are deeper and maybe that translates to better roster somehow..

I think y’all are viewing this wrong. Zion passed every time he had the ball. The plan was never for him to go to the rim 20 times. They want him to work on conditioning and stay healthy. Why the frick do we want him banging in the paint in preseason and risking injury? The main thing that matters is his conditioning.

The whole game plan last night was “hey Zion don’t get hurt or get beat up and run the court”. I thought he did great. He purposely didn’t go for rebounds because again it’s preseason and there’s no reason to risk injury.

Some of you would bitch if we just sat him and some people with bitch if he’s not scoring 80pts in a preseason game.

The only thing that mattered last night was Dyson/ Hawkins combined 6/10 3pt and Zion conditioned without injury. Game plan worked great.

I didn't watch the game I have only seen clips and seen what other people have said.

A lot of others are saying he looked extremely lazy

Zion didn't play with much energy, but he made the right play with ball over and over. You can't say that about anyone else last night. He set good screens, but never got the ball back when he rolled to the basket. He passed out if the post, but never got the ball back after reestablishing better position. And they completely ignore him on the Zion spin that Lonzo, Bledsoe, and even Jackson used to throw for easy alley oops.

He looked lazy because he did not go to the basket after his first shot make and he did not jump over people for rebounds.

Look at his “effort” game 1 vs game 2. That wasn’t just him not caring, it was quite clearly the coaching staff setting up the strategy to not get physical and to just be on the court for conditioning.

The same idiots bitching are the same people that want him to give 150% in preseason and then would ask for his immediate trade when he lands weird because he’s giving 150% in a preseason game.

Zion had 8 shots in 15min game 1.

Yesterday he had 3 shots in 22 min vs fricking Sengun. Do y’all really think he couldn’t have scored more or taken more shots if that was the game plan?

At the same time our 3 shooters + Dyson took the most shots (just by luck I guess). That’s crazy. It’s almost like we planned for our shooters to just take shots and planned for Dyson to get a rhythm while not risking a Zion injury but still having him on the court.

Crazy how that works out

Almost like the plan wasn’t for him to get the ball back.

You might be right, but you are at a 9 when we need you at a 5. Calm down. We are all on the same side.

Or Ingram, Naji, CJ, and Kira are dribble first ball players who haven't bought into the concept of ball movement. We’ll know soon enough.

- this my friends is called trying to spin a horrible preseason loss with no effort into a positive. Like the coaching staff is purposely telling players just run around get conditioing in and dont try. What a great way to establish a winning culture lol.

Willie himself stated they haven’t installed half court plays for Zion yet- umm why? He’s your best player and you haven’t installed any half court plays for him? That to me is alarming in itself. But yeah its all a part of this master plan by the Pels coaching staff lol

Rockets may not have the top end talent the Pelicans do, but they BY FAR have the better coach.

Those dudes were immune to defense last year. Their first 2 preseason games they clearly get that message now.
