Mother f*ck! Once again, some team gets overextended on a contract (Paul) and some other moronic front office swoops in and bails them out

Sometimes it feels like the NBA just writes a check to an owner and says "we need you to take one for the team on this one"
Say what?

Houston took back Westbrook, who is widely considered an equally bad contract as it goes for 1 extra year, is a terrible fit with Harden, and gave up 2 picks and 2 pick swaps.

Need to factor in that with the recent trades, OKC will likely retain the 2020 first (top 20 protected to Philly) and 2022 first (top 14 protected to Atlanta). From 2020 to 2026: 15 first-round picks and the swap rights in 4 years.

OKC may get more picks but Paul doesn’t save them much money or make them better on the court.

CP3’s deal is one year shorter. There is that.

If CP3 hangs on long enough he will likely end up with one last shot at a ring IMO. Hed be the 6th or 7th best player on the roster tho

Already reading this same guys who HATED Westbrook 2 hours ago, rationalize this trade because their homeboy Morey made the deal.

Morey is the most overrated gm in sports. His rep is weird kinda like Gruden. The myth is much greater than the reality.

Morey just slams pieces together regardless of personality, style or fit.

He can identify talent but has no clue how to build a team.

I think it’s a win for both teams. For Houston, no one was gonna take CP3 without getting picks. And Westbrook gives them a star to pair with Harden. It allows them to still be in contention for a title. It was either paying Westbrook (30) or paying Paul (34). Westbrook lengthens their title window somewhat. It makes sense for Houston. They weren’t gonna get any other star.

The rockets have zero chance at a title with those two.

Yeah I had shortsighted reaction. I was really hoping Houston were stuck with Harden and Paul fighting all year, but Westbrook's contract is as bad as Paul's

The rockets couldn’t trade him.

Paul is being put out to pasture to die on a now irrelevant team.

My thought is that they find a sucker willing to take him for salary relief.

My candidate is MJ trading for a NC favorite son by sending out a bunch of short term shite contracts and some picks.

Houston hoped to find third-team destination preferable to Chris Paul, but ultimately leaves it OKC to execute next step once Presti confers w/ CP3 agent Leon Rose. Miami remains possibility for Paul (3 years, $124M) -- and OKC obviously has picks to incentivize deal, if needed.

I love it. Paul is stuck in OKC for the rest of his miserable career with no chance of anyone trading for that albatross contract. His fake nice guy act getting him exactly what he deserves. Karma’s a ***** Chris.

He’s still making 120 million in the next three years. Still great to see him wallow at the bottom though.
