There’s no world in which you can have Trae and CJ on the floor together

Trae's not as efficient as BI and that could be a problem if Trae shoots at same volume those shots could come from guys like Trey and Zion who *are* efficient. Hopefully Trae can accept an adjustment from 19-21 shots per game to something like 16-18 shots.

It'd be interesting to see what Pels do with starting lineup with Trae. Trae + Zion + center, then Herb because you need someone to play defense, and that leaves one spot for CJ or Trey. I guess CJ starts and Trey comes off the bench and closes over the center.

And he's even more dribble-prone, but people see what they want to see.

It’s crazy how everyone keeps saying Trae is a terrible defender when a lot of hawk fans said he wasnt even their worst defender. Also, imagine Trae tiring out his defender compare to the guys we have. They will need to send help to him which leads him to find the open guy. Most importantly, he shows up during the playoffs. Especially during the conference finals.

Ive posted this twice in the last few months, but I don’t think people get it.

I’m surprised at how many people like Trae’s fit on this team. I get it for the most part on offense, but the defense would be a train wreck. Especially considering that we wouldn’t have the money or assets to really go get anyone else.

I’ve said this all before but not that Young is a bad defender, it’s that he might be the worst defender in the entire league. Opponents had a 121.6 ORtg whenever he was on the court this year. That’s horrendous. That’s 2pts worse than Cam Thomas and equivalent to Jordan Poole who played with much worse defenders around him.

To put it into even more perspective, a 121.6 ORtg would have lead the league every year except one for the last 3 decades. Only the Celtics last year, who posted an ORtg 0.5 points higher. So whenever he was on the court last year, the opposing team’s offense was historically good.

The Hawks have spent years trying to surround Young with defensive guys, yet have only had a defense outside of the bottom 3rd of the league once. Here is their team DRtg in the years since Young has been drafted:

28
28
18
26
22
27

You have to do so much to help him that it severely limits what schemes you can run and who you can play on that end.

They're actually really close in terms of efficiency. The difference is their shot selection.

The last two seasons Trae has had a 3PT attempt rate of .387, and a FT rate of .436. BI the last two seasons has had a 3PT attempt rate of .219 and a FT rate of .313.

We just had the 6th best defense in the NBA with Herb being the only plus defender in our starting 5.

Offense wins in the NBA.

I mean you have to have both come playoff time.

Did you just see the celtics shut the mavs down?

this... the Warriors dynasty flipped the NBA on its head and made offensive prowess much more valuable than defensive

The warriors had a prime klay thompson, Draymond, and a pretty good igudola defensively.

I was only really looking at EFG% that takes into account 2s and 3s, and BI has been 0.524 in New Orleans and Trae has been at 0.506 in Atlanta. I note that Trae has improved in years 4-6 and in only those years he's at 0.513 and that bumped him up from first three years.

The FT rate matters but I'm curious if it would decrease if he touches the ball less than he's used to.

Ingram, Green and Sengun to Suns
Durant to Rockets
Trae and JSJ to Pels
Whitmore Dyson and a shitload of picks to Hawks including #3 and Hawks own back
Murray to Spurs

Make it fricking happen Griff, Stone and whoever else

No one cares about who dribbles. It’s the intent that’s the issue. BI tends to pull the ball out, look around. He takes a while to process. He doesn’t press the screen.

Trae is always in attack mode, probing. He is going to create an advantage, breakdown the defense. Again, explode off the back of a screen.

They are polar opposites in the way they decide to play offense, and the quickness in which they do so.

Can we just start an official rumor thread? Easier to follow then rumors being inserted in between discussions.

In what way does giving a 6’2 point guard that needs the ball in his hands $40+ million a year, translate to winning basketball games?

Also that gives you 2 players that are undersized and are injury prone in your starting lineup.
Curry and Green have done OK.

That's such a bad trade for the Rockets. Like laughably bad.

Make the trade but Dyson shouldn’t be on the table. Especially if we’re letting Naji walk, Herb is going to get hurt trying to carry those defensive scrubs

What defensive players have they tried to surround him with? Murray? Bogi? Hawks fans said his D was bad and not as advertised when they got him from SA. And their fans said Bogi’s D was worse than Traes. So who have they really brought in like you’ve stated?
