Spotrac already has Graham off the books and it shows the Pels at $157, $4.6 below the tax with Temple still on the books but with letting all of our holds (Jax, Seabron, Richardson) walk for nothing. LINK / Assuming Zion doesn't qualify for the Super Max, cut Temple to give Naji a new deal and you can still add a draft pick in the teens and be under the tax line.

In my post I’m assuming Naji gets a deal around 7 million, we cut Temple, that leaves us at 3.025 million under the tax, right at the number the #19 pick signed for this year.

We also still have 2 open roster spots and we know we’re not going a whole season with only 13 players.

Now if we don’t re-sign Naji and just accept his option, thats a different story, but I don’t think they will go that route.

'm not convinced the Graham move was a sign that ownership is cheap (yet), but it isn't the best look. On a day where every other competitor in the west made at least one move to shore up a weakness, we made one to cut costs for next year.

So cutting a long term contract whos your 11th best player, at best, for an expiring contract who shoots well from 3 and plays better D is a bad look?

How about we just get healthy and start winning and all of you will likely quit with this nonsense.

They could also dump kira somewhere for like a fake 2nd. I like kira but he makes 5.7m next year when he'll barely crack the rotation. you can sign a vet PG for like 2m who can be our 4th string PG

Those numbers don’t add up to me. You have $4.6 in tax space not bringing back Jax and Richardson. Temple makes $5.4. Cut him. Give $5 million of that to Naji raising him to $6.9. $.4 left over plus $4.6 means you have $5 million left which is just enough to sign a mid teen pick and Liddell.

The Pels know they will be operating in the tax in the near future .

This idea that they are too cheap and won’t do it is just immediate emotional reaction from folks.

However , they will be strategic about the timing of making that jump into the tax bc the tax is one thing …the repeater tax is a different animal .

I forgot to subtract the amount Naji is on the books for next season, but we’re still right at the tax line (assuming we’re drafting outside lottery) and adding Liddell, then we still have an open roster spot.

There’s multiple ways it could go, and we may even find a trade bringing in far less money for better talent (like a Jonas for Claxton move) and it’s all moot

But New Orleans decided it wasn’t the right time to make an all-in move for a player like Anunoby or new Brooklyn Net Mikal Bridges. The Pelicans didn’t show much interest in including former first-round picks Trey Murphy and Dyson Daniels in potential deals, according to league sources who were not authorized to speak publicly on trade discussions. This made it challenging to construct the type of mega-deals other teams were looking to make for some of the big names that were available. – via William Guillory @ The Athletic

I mean shite the way it seemed like every team could use guy like bridges his price would be high. Like the Raptors wanted too much for OG? Mikal was probably higher.

They might have wanted 3 of our top 5 most valuable players plus multiple firsts.

If we say no, oh well. They have a young two way stud on a great contract.

I would do dyson herb and 2-3 1sts for bridges but not OG. Bridges is locked up on a great contract and is a much better offensive player. Throw in JV and some more picks for Claxton and that would be my all in move

He’s the most important player outside our big 3. 6’10 wings who shoot nearly 50/40/90 are unheard of and extremely valuable. He’s going to be more valuable than OG in a year

Can’t argue with any of that. I just love his potential and what he already brings to the table. Still only 22 and growing into his body

I'm disappointed they couldn't find an upgrade deal too, but OG and Bridges are both just more fully baked versions of what the Pels young group of wings could become. One thing that is pretty consistent in the NBA is the earlier you look like a star, the more likely you'll be a star.

I say that referring to Dyson and a little bit Trey. Both have shown a lot early so I don't think it's crazy to think in 2-3 years they'll be the kind of wing players all the other teams in the league will be calling to trade for.

With the West becoming an arms race again, the Pels really need to keep their powder dry for the right opportunity.

Per Zach Lowe, 1 team offered 4 1sts just for Bridges, and the Nets said no.

Just sounds like all the needle moving dudes we may have wanted just had way too high prices.

Lot of folks didn't realize (& still don't) just how good...Mikal is gonna be.

And Guillory just clarified that he meant the Pels will be keeping Richardson the rest of the season. Beyond that is unknown.

He's awesome. I didn't want to trade for OG. I would trade everything for Mikal. He is who people think OG is and then some.

CJ Mikal BI Zion Claxton

Thats a championship lineup. Trade it all for that lineup
