Vaughn might be a great guy and players might love him. But that will be on paper an extremely underwhelming hire and the chatter will start to get very very loud. We will get clowned on relentlessly.

None of that matters if he does a good job. But he will get no grace period or slack.

If we come out and are mediocre or bad then the inferno around this franchise for hiring a dude who absolutely sucked in his previous HC job will be insanity.

If Vaughn was that special it seems like Langdon would have pushed him over SVG and he reportedly didn't. We really don't know enough to judge but I'll probably be disappointed in anyone besides Lee.

Lee is my choice based on what we know so far but there are tons of guys I’d be perfectly happy with or even excited about.

Vaughn isn’t one of them. I won’t melt or anything but I would be very very skeptical and assume Griffin fricked up again until proven otherwise.

I seriously didn't even know they were looking for a coach. I knew Ainge was fired, but didn't know Stevens moved into that role.

Yes he did, but not as a Coach/GM, just as GM.

I see that. It's a weird move to me. I guess his analytics could be valuable in the front office, but he seems like he will get tired of being that far removed from the games.

The reason he gave for the move was he was tired of coaching

I thought it was a really strange move.

Scoop B

New Orleans Pelicans head coaching job’s vacant & the belief is Bucks assistant Charles Lee is their guy.

Pelicans head coaching race looks like this: Lee is the front runner. Nets assistant Jacque Vaughn, Clippers Assistant Chauncey Billups are 2nd & 3rd choices I’m told.

New Orleans Pelicans fixture on Charles Lee’s head coaching chances: “He’s an incredible person. Leader. Great basketball mind. He will relate to the young stars. It’s Lee’s job if he wants it.”

I’m good with this list. Lee is my top choice and I actually like Vaughn (I think he’s a good coach that will do better with his next opportunity) and we know Billups is going to be a good HC. I just want a seasoned coach as the lead assistant behind Lee tho.

My guess is Chauncey goes to Portland and that leaves us with Lee or Vaughn.

My worry is Lee takes his time, thinking he could be in line to take over for Bud if Milwaukee flames out.

Could end up a lot like last year when Griffin waited around to beg Ty Lue, when Lue was really waiting for a better job.

Yeah. That’s a concern. Griffin just has to say, it’s your job. Do you want it? Yes or no? And ask for an answer within an appropriate amount of time. 2-3 days.

If not then move on.

I agree.

The longer this goes on, I think I might weirdly feel better that Vaughn isn't the first choice.

Nobody's coming to get Vaughn, so if Griffin wanted him he could hire him today. Chauncey and Lee might actually have other options to think through.

Still can't wrap my head around us being interested in Vaughn, though. Blows my mind.

Out of curiosity, I searched "Vaughn" on Woj's twitter history. The only results were him getting fired by Orlando, his assistant jobs and...being a Pelicans HC candidate 2 years in a row. NOTHING, not even a sniff of an interview from any other team since he got fired in 2015. Smh.

Part of the reason why Zion’s exit interview was so freaking testy was the type of questions our media was asking him. These types would rather stoke the fire for a juicy quote or reaction than help keep these guys happy.

This is such a great point. I get so aggravated with the local media constant fear mongering about Zion leaving. Everything that gets written is framed with that. Literally everything. I can’t imagine dealing with that constantly. You start to wonder what the only commonality across the last 10 years of the organization is. Because it isn’t ownership, management, or the players.

“Hey Zion, since Chris Paul and AD hated it here so much and forced their way out before, how do you feel about the moves the team is making and will that do anything to dissuade you from doing the same?”

I mean, national media does it but you expect that.

That’s true! Lue was definitely looking for a win now HC opportunity and just using Griff and the Pels as leverage. It I don’t see that with Lee because this is his first coaching opportunity unlike Lue who already had experience and a championship with the Cavs.

Actually, I think this is a great set up for Lee. He has two young all stars that’s playoff ready if they actually buy into playing hard on both ends of the court. Also, I think Ham would take over the Bucks before Lee.

Can't see him agreeing with us until his team is eliminated

If happens all of the time with assistants. Gentry agreed with us while his team was in the Finals.

I don't have a problem with Lee, but i think it's important he brings in a stellar assistant coaches team around him.

Sam Mitchell was on NBA radio yesterday talking about how he wants an opportunity to get back into coaching, he's an X's and O's type that builds relationships with players also.

If he were interested in being a lead assistant he would be my choice, already knows Griff and Co, previous HC experience, and played 18 years in the league.

A coaching staff of
Lee
Mitchell
T-Spoon
Vinson

Would be a solid staff
