New Orleans Pelicans Receive: C/F Kristaps Porzingis

Dallas Mavericks Receive: C Steven Adams and G Eric Bledsoe

quote:

From a salary cap standpoint, the Pelicans would clear $3.5 million for the 2021-22 season but would be paying Kristaps Porzingis an extra year than what they would the two seasons that Eric Bledsoe and Steven Adams have left on their deals.

Porzingis is set to earn $31.6 million during the upcoming season and will earn $33.8 million in 2022-23 and a $36 million player option in 2023-24. The Pelicans would have to be confident in his fit alongside Zion Williamson for the long-term.

If you want this kind of player on the Pels it would make more sense to do a deal with Cleveland for Love. His contract is a year shorter and you don't help a division rival dig out of a hole.

absolutely not.
All that beanpole does is shoot 3's, and he's not even that great at it. He's a 36% 3 point shooter. He's a horrible perimeter defender, even for a big man, and he can't guard the bigger 5's in the league. He's basically a 7'3" SF that can't play defense.

I'm not a fan of KP and I don't want him on the Pels, but I think he will be better on his next roster than he is on the Mavs. Same with CJ. Same as CP once he left Houston.

Playing with these insanely ball dominant players turns these guys into catch and shoot players and doesn't really give them much of an opportunity with the ball in hand.

KP may never be 70% of what people thought he might be, but I bet hes a good bit better at his next stop.

Takes 6 threes a game and 10 2 point shots a game

That would instantly be our best or second best perimeter shooter.
BI - 36.7%
Zo - 35.3%
Hart - 34.8%
NAW - 34.7%
Kira - 33.3%

I wouldn't say he's much worse on the perimeter than Adams

He is a good player that would help the team. Problem is, he is extremely injury prone and the contract is superstar level. The mavs would have to throw in more compensation to cover that extra year at $36 million.

He'll be movable when he's expiring.

As I said in the other thread about him, Porzingis is soft, usually injured, and he has a poor reputation in the locker room -- he's vastly overpaid. But he's a good player (not great), and overpaying good players can be a pathway to success, provided that Gayle is willing to pay some tax.

If Gayle gives the green light to paying tax, then it's a good trade for us, because his salary doesn't matter if Gayle is willing to pay it and the tax that comes with it. Porzingis would help the team, and I think that he'd be a good fit from a basketball perspective.

For Adams and Bledsoe.

feels like the kind of move that OKC keeps making -- take on someone else's contract mistake and hope you can rehab that player into being a useful asset again

would be a huge gamble for the Pels

Yeah basically two bad contracts with no upside for one with some upside. Whether he'd stay healthy or accept being the 3rd banana in a small market is a big question.

They're already trying to get Luka to the Knicks

but.... does Kristaps suck because he sucks, or is he Kevin-Loving it out there because he hates Luka?

But Cleveland willn't want to have Bledsoe and Adams...

Adams and Allen are same player or almost (Allen is better but you understand what i want to say).

Bledsoe is as undersized as Sexland...

I’m actually not completely against this. The unicorn may fit well and he won’t get worn down with Hayes and Z on the roster.

The length on that team would be scary.

PG- Ball 6’6”
SG - BI 6’9”
SF - Zion 6’7”
PF - KP 7’3”
C - Jax 7’
