You don’t know basketball. Simple as that.

That's just absurd. Overall, they have a great shot profile. On the season:
7th in FGA (30.5) + FGM (19.5) in the restricted area
27 of their 38 3s are catch and shoot
They hit those at 39%, which is good for 3rd in the league
Since Zion came back:
2nd in FGA (35) + 1st in FGM (23) in the restricted area
26 of 36 3s are catch and shoot
They hit those at 42%, which is 1st
We can pull the closest defender data too, if you'd like.
This is classic negativity bias. Do they sometimes have possessions where a guy takes an ill-advised shot? Yes. But so does every team in the league. On the whole, they take good, open shots.
Since Zion came back, this offense has been amazing. If anything, the offense "suffers" more from turnovers and missed FTs than any sort of poor shot selection.

I will add I’m talking more about the first half than the second half. There wasn’t much to complain about in the second half. Keep in mind GSW is the worst team in the league. We would have been blown out by almost any other team yesterday.

GSW: 46 FGM, 36 of those assisted
Por: 45 FGM, 36 of those assisted
OKC: 42 FGM, 31 of those assisted
Por: 49 FGM, 40 of those assisted
Ind: Zion and BI didnt play
Chi: 49 FGM, 38 of those assisted
That's BEAUTIFUL fricking ball movement, like, textbook

So you're making sweeping statements based on 24 minutes of basketball when the Pels shot 36% from 2, 33% from 3, and 45% from the FT line? Are we sure they just didn't have a bad half shooting?
Here's some fun shot selection stuff:
1st Half: 11 FGA in RA, 17 FGA in paint/mid-range, 21 3PA
2nd Half: 12 FGA in RA, 16 FGA in paint/mid-range, 20 3PA
I'd love to see a deeper breakdown of those awful shots in the first half

Please educate yourself on how basketball is played before returning to this board. Thank you.

which is a revelation compared to what we are used to.
the Anthony Davis mid range turnaround late in the clock is a bad shot. The holiday desperation three is a bad shot. the cousins off the bounce pull up is a bad shot.
we have never ever seen ball movement and consistent open shots like this. Ever.
to whine about “shot selection” right now is preposterous

Pass, cut, pass, cut, etc. is a winning strategy.
Or pass around the top continuously like the Spurs used to do. Eventually, Parker or Ginobli would be wide open for a shot or a pass down low

They start sets out of Zion in the post. Inside-out basketball is winning basketball.
My favorite play by far though is the throw ahead to Zion in the post when defenders are still getting back. He works out of that first 4-5 seconds and it's either a post move or really good pass to an open runner who then finds an open set shooter that faded to the sideline or it's a layup.
So much havoc is created for the defense and I love it.

Hey I see the good too, but it’s not enough. They need to get better and the potential is there so it’s frustrating. On the offense end they need to stop making so many turnovers and keep improving their shot selection. Now keep in mind I am jaded and looking at only what this team needs to do to become a championship winning team, not just a winning team which many others may be satisfied with.
Most importantly they need to rely and trust in Zion even more. He needs to be the CLEAR #1 by the playoffs.

The correct ratio is probably about one shitty mid range shot for every 10 Zion dunk/layups. Sounds about right.

If been way to MIA. Can someone fill me in RQ? Who is this idiot? He has by far the biggest gap from “how smart he thinks he is” to “how smart he is” that I have ever seen on any sports topic ever.

You're complaining about the way the team is playing with Zion on the court.
With Zion on the court, we're literally a championship level squad going by the statistics.
The pelicans starting lineup of BI, Zion, Ball, Holiday, and Favors is better statistically than ANY 5 man lineup (min 45 mins played) of the championship contenders.
Pels starting 5 statistically is better than the starting 5 of Houston, Denver, Milwaukee, Both LA teams, Boston and Toronto.
You have no idea what you are watching.

Don’t let the hype get to your head. Stats can be very misleading. These are still kids and they have a long way to go and a lot of improvements to make. We are getting good and fun to watch finally that’s for sure.

nice article on the ringer today comparing zion to shaq

You have to go back almost 30 years to find a comparison for Zion Williamson’s first month in the NBA. He’s the second rookie in history to average more than 20 points per game on better than 55 percent shooting. The other is Shaquille O’Neal. The two have more in common than you would think. Williamson is essentially what would happen if you compressed prime Shaq into a 6-foot-6 frame. The normal rules of basketball don’t apply when a player is that strong and explosive. Shaq was an elite player from day one. Zion is too. He isn’t adjusting to the NBA—the NBA is adjusting to him.

I can agree with that. Just keep the ball moving. That's when we've been most successful.
