I would trade CJ and BI and see what a new coach can do with the others before trading them away too.
CJ and BI with draft picks and expiring's gets you into the rebuild you should have done last year.
.
This is the most reasonable path forward, and absolutely should have been done last year.

Trades need to start at Zion, then see what you have. He has always been the problem.

Music to my ears. That would have been my list as well. I hope Jose is in the “strongly prefer not to” category. He’s dirt cheap and his energy/joy are palpably missing right now on that court and in that arena.

I say Herb, Trey, and Missi are the new core but we just need to add an alpha to them. I like Murray as a vet PG as well as Jose (Back up PG with intensity) and Hawkins (another shooter) off the bench. Everyone else can go.
This is the right strategy. Will add Boston has potential in right situation as a 8-9 guy on the bench, and JRE will always be cheap. This isn't a "clean house", but rather resolve the big issues for the rest of the season which are Zion/BI and getting under the cap.

Anybody up for a fat slob generational bust with "potential" when he decides to play?

I love Jose but fans really need to stop treating him like he's an important part to this roster. He's the 7,8,9th best player on a team full of losers.
I'm not against keeping him but he has more value trading and saving a future 1st or gaining 2nds > keeping him for no damn reason on a bum roster.

Priority one is getting under the tax. Trading Ingram makes zero sense if the Pels receive salary back. I doubt CJ can be traded given his contract and the CBA. Most contenders are in the second apron. Cannot see a bottom feeder being interested in CJ.
A poster recently listed about nine teams in the second apron. Teams that can absorb salary are more interested in the upcoming draft. They won't trade for a CJ or Ingram unless the Pels include future draft choices. The new CBA limits CJ and B's trade markets.
My guess is that the Pels will make minor trades such as Green, Jose, Hawk or Theis to get under the cap.

His value is at an all time low. You have time to repair it to a degree that gets you something decent moving forward.
You dont sell a stock when its fallen off a cliff.

I think everyone knows who Jose is, nobody is saying he's a star. But he's a fan favorite so people want to see him stay, nothing wrong with that.
I would certainly rather have him than a random future 2nd.

Lol
Wouldn't be the first time a star was lousy for us but got their shite together elsewhere

I’m worried no one wants to take that chance.

When has this happened?

Say we can unload BI, CJ, Zion
What players would you want in return?
Do you think there is an upcoming or needs to get a chance type player?

Baron Davis quit on us and did better. Eric freakin Gordon sucked for us and has somehow stayed a somewhat relevant player to this day (I think). JR Smith, Jrue, etc.
My biggest fear with fire selling and/or tanking is we do not have the best track record with no. 1 draft picks. Even less with non no. 1 high draft picks. So let’s just say BI gets gone, CJ and Herb….and we luck up and get Flagg or Harper. How does that player fit in to our situation and we see a turnaround somewhat in our lifetime?
I’m not sure our fanbase can realistically go through yet another rebuild. We have been going through rebuilds since the Chris Paul trade. shite, we rebranded after that and pretty much started from the ground up.
I have no answers to how this gets resolved. I just know that I’ve supported this team since it arrived in NO and watching this team on tv is like a root canal. And asking fans to spend money to go watch this product on court is almost criminal.

Goes to the Knick for 2 1st and 3 2nds (Griff 2nd round specials) and is suddenly healthy 95% of the season and is all NBA for the next 6 years.

I know it can happen but we have no evidence he’s ever going to be healthy or be able to control his weight issues. I wouldn’t bet on him playing the majority of any season at this point.
If they gave 2 1st and 3 2nds I’d probably take that and just be done with it.

How disappointing that it has gone in this direction too. Everybody really wanted him to be Top 5 player in the NBA. Is he now a long-term liability?
Posted on 12/16/24 at 5:09 pm to PUB
Don’t think the Knicks have many, if any, firsts left due to a number of trades they pulled off in the past two years.
Posted on 12/16/24 at 5:16 pm to PUB
Yeah I think everyone still holds onto the hope that he’ll turn it around. But at some point that messes everything up. We’ve tried to build the team around players that aren’t always available among other things. No a smart plan. If he gets it together somewhere else then that’s just what it is. I’m pretty much done with wishing he’ll get it together here.

Jose is an intriguing player because his true value is mostly wrapped up in intangibles. It really depends on how much you value the mental aspect of the game, so people are all over the place.
Me personally, I think confidence and intelligence are more important than they’ve ever been. This league plays incredibly fast now. I want cost controlled guys like Jose who will LIFT those around him up. Help them play free. It’s obvious why he wins his minutes when we don’t completely suck.
Jose’s never gonna break our bank to keep here, so his value shouldn’t diminish much for awhile like other players who escalate up. I don’t see why trade him now if he carries similar value later. Does a Caruso/McConnell value fluctuate much? No.
It is more than him being a “fan favorite”. It’s the reason he is. Built purely off joy and desire. That’s exactly how you’d want every player on your team to play.
