Outside of one outlier postseason, what has Trae?
So more than Kyrie?

Hypothetically lets say the deal lands Trae for BI and Herb, no picks. We can then expand the trade before it’s final and send Larry with 2 1sts to Cleveland for Allen. There’s your plus defender in the starting 5.
So we're remaking the ATL construction (Allen for the old Capella) that led to a very mid defense? Also, that is assuming Trey can get to Hunter's level on the perimeter.

he took the eventual EC champs to 6 games while having zero help from anyone else?
Are we ignoring Murray and Hunter? They had some role players perform too, like Capella and Bogdonavic
Murray averaged 23/7/7 on 45/38/100 shooting that series
That's "no help"?

And then we would be discussing what else we have to add to a BI, Herb, Trey and 5 1sts package to pair him with Zion.
Exactly. He's not the player y'all are making him out to be.

I’d rather send 3 more firsts than Herb. We have to pair Herb with Trae for the trade to make sense.

There are some many different reasons.
- Herb arguably has a top 10 NBA contract
- You don't trade a defensive 1st team player
- frick look at GSW with Draymond and how long he's been there. They still don't necessarily want to get rid of him even with shenanigans
- If you get an offensive star then you have to pair a defensive player with them
-SOMEONE HAS TO GAURD OPPOSING TEAMS TOP PLAYER AND HERB JONES IS THE #1 PLAYER IN THE NBA FOR THAT JOB.
The last one is so painfully obvious and important that it shows the levels of your stubbornness / ignorance in this thread.

Yes me to as noted in the 2,346 times I have said it in this exact thread but for some reason yall cannot grasp that.

We wouldn’t be pairing Trae with Herb, the appeal of Trae is his pairing with ZION. You know, our best player? Not our 5th best

That’s not enough.
What do the Celtics, Mavs, Wolves, and Thunder have in common other than being 4/5 best teams in the NBA? They all have elite defenses. If we add Trae, we need to keep Herb in order to keep our defense. Hopefully adding a rim protector as well, to move us into that elite group.

All correct, but you need to add: we have a defense-first coach

Exactly. The only way we can stay a top half D with Trae is with Herb and a elite rim protector. Trae is that bad on D.

quote:I'll just repeat it, Kyrie hasn't had the team success at #1 like Trae has. You can sugar coat it any way you like to like you did but notice you never said I was wrong, because I wasn't wrong.
If Trae's one outlier postseason was seen as this benchmark like y'all argue for him, especially in addition to counting stats that y'all keep bringing up, he would never be traded.
quote:Kyrie has been a more efficient scorer but also not a #1 like Trae has been. Then there's Trae averaging darn near double the assists over the past few years.
Look at his shooting

I mean….CJ is too if we are being honest.

Trae is worse. CJ at least tries.

CJ might be better from a team defense perspective. I see him poke the ball away a lot, but he got hunted so bad in the playoffs.
Obviously, if we get Trae then CJ has to come off the bench or get moved by the deadline right?

Might be true that CJ is a better defender. But Trae is also a better offensive player than CJ as well.
I agree if we get Trae- CJ has to come off bench or get traded. Also why I feel like Pels may hesitate getting Trae- I don’t think they want to trade CJ.

Not to mention, he’s much younger than Kyrie. His value will be higher than what Kyrie’s was.
There’s no question his value will be higher. But like I said, what asset in the Kyrie trade is close to the level of what BI is?
Posted on 6/1/24 at 1:42 pm to Soggymoss

The trades you should be looking at is the Siakam and Mitchell trades, and realize that Trae will get traded for value that lands around the middle of those two deals.
I think you dead wrong. There was a robust market for those two because they fit on numerous teams. Hell theres already leaks Griff wants Spider and he’s an expiring but has no interest in Trae.
Hes on a super max contract and you have to go all in on him and have the right pieces to fit him in, which I think we do. Theres just not a big market for him for those reasons. So no we shouldnt be looking at those trades as a measuring stick. I’m sure that’s what Atlanta is hoping but they will be disappointed. They’ll have to take dimes on the dollar or trade Murray instead and keep him.
I’m all in for getting Trae, but only if it’s for BI and not much more. None of our younger guys, only firsts.

So if we lose getting Trae because we wanted to hold onto Dyson- you’re ok with that?
If thats the case what exactly do you think Dyson will become in the next 2 or 3 years (might have mentioned this before so apologies if you did) ?

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I’d trade Dyson before I trade Hawkins

It honestly depends on what you think is more important in todays game? Elite level shooting or elite level defense? The way the game is played and officiated I would lean towards Hawkins. If we’re keeping Herb to me its more of a reason to trade Dyson and keep Hawkins.
