They just traded for Haliburton

Ayton is severely underrated because he volunteered for a reduced offensive role the past 2 years. Ayton can be a 25/10 guy with all-NBA defense and the occasional 3PT

Phoenix pretty much needs Ayton as salary filler to get Durant. If they’re going to get him, I think you’ll see a move pretty quickly with Ayton to Indiana and Durant to Phoenix

*shrug*

They don’t have much else to work with.

They are in the process of a rebuild. Halliburton as their point and Mathurin as a wing are their main pieces, as everything else is a mix of expirings and shite contracts (Buddy Hield).

There are also claims that the Pacers don’t even have the cap space to fit Ayton into, which means they are likely dumping Myles Turner or others shortly if the Suns don’t match.

Suns are screwed

@BobbyMarks: Phoenix has until Saturday night at 11:59PM ET. to match the largest offer sheet in NBA history.

The contract is binding and a sign-and-trade cannot be completed.

If Phoenix matches, Ayton has veto power on any trade after Jan. 15. He cannot be traded to Indiana.

If he signed the offer sheet, i don't think that's possible anymore. All Phx can do is match it and keep him. they can't trade him anymore.

Great move by Indy. Ridiculously overpaid, but now PHX has to decide if they want to overpay him, or lose the #1 overall pick for nothing. We should all be thanking them.

He signed the offer sheet, if the Suns match he can't be traded anywhere until January and he can't be traded to the Pacers for a full year.

A Sarver masterclass. People should really be angling for their picks in 2 or 3 years when CP3 is gone.

The question now, is "Does Sarver match it to trade Ayton later, or does he just let him walk for nothing?"

Makes me wonder if Ayton just wanted to get paid or if he really wants to be in Indy.

If nothing else, I wouldn’t put it past him to do this as a “frick you” to the team for refusing to pay him then dicking around on a potential sign and trade while they flirted with Brooklyn.

That's what I was wondering, because the initial reports all said "agreed to", and then everyone started going on with "signed offer sheet".

He doesn't seem like someone who cares about market or anything like that. Indy has a decent young core with Haliburton and Mathurin, and potentially Ayton.

All signs suggest Phoenix is not going to overpay Ayton.

Also, I'm not sure Phoenix ever wanted KD at the price he would cost anyway. If they have to give up Bridges, how do you build a defense? He's as critical to their defense as Herb is to ours.

Who was the last championship team that didn't have a top 10 defense? I just went back the past 10 years and couldn't find one bad defense. Most of the time they were top 3. This is why nobody is beating down Brooklyn's door to gut their team and mortgage their future to get KD. He was a big part of a top defense in Golden State, but he's much older now and has dealt with a major leg injury since then.

I hope the Pacers put all type of poison pills in the contract they gave to Ayton.

Because the clock to match doesn’t start until midnight, both sides still have time work out a sign-and-trade before the offer sheet is officially signed. @BobbyMarks42

So I guess the suns have until midnight to do a sign and trade?
