I sure hope David Griffin knows what he is doing. Of course the success of the upcoming season depends on the availability of Zion , and the health of the roster. But, for the Pels not to be active in free agency regardless of the luxury tax is disappointing to me. To see the Pels not make a move, and to sit back and watch the Lakers load up is tough on any Pelican fan. When I say the NBA is ridiculous, I am referring specifically about how the Lakers have built a guaranteed western conference final appearance. It's ridiculous the roster they have built without players to trade ,or valuable draft choices. How many millions must the Lakers be over the salary cap? Honestly, it looks like my last year as a season ticket holder, unless David Griffin is a damn basketball genius. Right now it seems to me that unproven Matkovic must be a damn good player for the Pels to be this quiet in free agency. I have seen many players move to other teams that would have been obvious upgrades for the Pels at reasonable salaries. What the hell is Griffin waiting for? Get in the game. Show the fans of New Orleans that you are trying to improve the roster.

Griff doesn’t decided if we pay the tax or not.

If you look at all the recent championships . Denver , bucks , warriors they were all built through drafting and player development not splashing out in free agency . The teams that go hard in f/a in todays nba generally fail . E.g Lakers , suns , nets . To name a few. Griff is focusing on player development and we have enough talent to compete with anyone if the players develop to their projections

What deal have you seen that you would actually want?

I can't recall many. Overpaying for the next Solomon Hill or Asik? frick all that.

Free agency is mostly for suckers.

If these reasonable salaries are above 0 million then that’s too much as of now.

Lakers and other teams have limited rookies/ young players of value. They have no choice but to spend money and become sharks in free agency.

All the other teams with many young players have plenty cap space. We are in a unique position because we have many young players and then essentially 3 all stars and Val.

So no we shouldn’t make any big moves until we see our young core healthy for a year. That is the smart decision. Keep CJ until we know BI/ Zion can stay healthy and take over.

Our only real option to upgrade right now would be to trade Kira, a 1st, and 1 of Val/ Nance for a center.

They also may want Nance/ Val, a 1st, and draft rights to Matkovich. So would it be worth it? It still might put us in a similar depth position.

I disagree with almost all of your post, but I vehemently disagree with you about the Lakers. Their team is just as contingent upon injuries as ours is with similar injury prone players, plus much more age. I’ll take our future outlook over theirs all day long and I’d put our present as about equal.

That's your opinion. I believe Divicenzo is worth 12.5 million, and whatever it takes to move Kira to ease the tax. Divincenzo is a gifted player, a dog, who hates to lose. Do you think he is better than Kira, better than Jose, or even Hawkins? I don't agree trying strip the roster trying to hit a homer. However, I am making a phone call to the Blazers to see if CJ, two #1's, and JV will temp them for Dame. I know it's unlikely, but I still make the call.

The Lakers seem to do this every year, and if they stay healthy they'll be the thick of it all this coming season. They're able to do this because of the owners allowing it. I'm beginning to feel like the small market teams have a chance once every twenty years. No rules really exist. Just do what you want. However you see fit. Money can cover up all of your mistakes in the NBA. SEE LOS ANGELES LAKERS FOR PROOF.

Griffs “ run it back” attitude is what worries me. We finished mediocre last season. Same team same results

The new CBA was small markets winning over big markets. The 2nd apron is so restrictive that it is effectively a hard cap.

We don’t have the money to pay anyone of significant value hence why they want to get rid of Temple and Kira’s contracts. They aren’t paying the luxury tax, that’s just not in the cards. There’s limited options available to them. I think they probably thought they might have a chance to get Jaxon back at a reduced cost but they will need to go find a backup big on a minimum deal somewhere.

Agree with all of this.

One problem we have in free agency is we don’t have minutes to allocate to guys. Our rotation is pretty well set, Lakers had like 3 guys under contract.

Also you want to talk about Donte, but Knocks used the Non-Taxpayer MLE to sign him, at this point we don’t have that to offer because anymore signings even a minimum deal would push us into the tax, so we only really have a 5 million dollar exemption and a minimum contract to offer, combined with zero minutes to distribute.

Look at it reasonably rather than seeing all these guys signing to other teams for inflated contracts. Free agency is not the way to build a team.

The market is outrageously expensive right now. It appears that Griff is taking
a patient approach. You also have to consider team culture and who is a good fit.

The idea is that it will be the same team that was in first place in December. Not the same team that missed 50 games from both stars.

I know is a big stretch and not likely. But Steph was written off as damaged with his ankles before he became who he is know.
But to me this has to be the last chance. If they both miss significant time, we need to be moving on.

Who the hell did the lakers load up on. Vincent was looking for the money. We didn’t want Jax back. Reddish on his 4th team in 4 years. And what has prince done. And all these guys except for gabe was lottery picks that never done anything worthwhile in the nba

The impatient approach would have blown Denver up this past off-season.

Wonder if they think, hey if we get lucky and healthy we'll be okay? Figure a defensive big at some point

So you're mad because we didn't sign a 12.5 million guy that is better than guys on our team making a fraction of that money?

Load up?

They signed 2 bad basketball players in Hayes and Reddish and overpaid on Rui and Vincent and also signed Russell who isn't a playoff rotation player to nearly $20 mil a year.

Even if we had the space, there isn't a single dude the Lakers added that I'd have been happy with at the contracts they were signed to other than Reaves.
