I’ve said it before…Stan might not have been the right guy, but he was a scapegoat for a shitty roster. Griff hasn’t had many good decisions other than Zion and the AD trade, both were no brainers or he was basically forced. Everything after that has been a disaster.
If he hires Lee or someone other than Weatherspoon and it doesn’t work he is fricking gone. Which is why I think he will hire Weatherspoon. He will be praised for thinking outside the box and when it doesn’t work he will be given the benefit of the doubt. The Pels don’t want to be seen as the organization that fired both the first woman HC and the GM that hired her. It would buy him more time.

I think Griff knows exactly who he wants. This is probably his last coaching hire so I assume he wouldn’t make the choice with a gamble.
And since many of those coach candidates are still coaching, unless it’s Kidd, he’s gonna need to wait to get confirmations. And if it is Kidd… might as well start planning for Zion’s blockbuster trade and who the next Gm is because I have zero faith in Mr. Wifebeater

To be fair, Kidd is mentioned for basically every single opening. All that should tell you is his agent has a close relationship with Woj, Shams, etc. and gets his name out there no matter what.

I think there is a LOT of truth to this.
I think Griffin looooooooooooves media fawning and this will buy the Pelicans so much fricking good will.

I always thought that that Griffin was forcing SVG to keep playing Bledsoe after it was obvious that NAW was better. Nope. SVG just loved Bledsoe.
I had been mildly defending SVG here on this board, but this piece of information is absolutely why this move was necessary. Unreal that Bledsoe the Tank Commander had that role because SVG wanted him in it.

Griffin is such a fraud. I have very little faith in this next hire. He did right by the firing (although i wonder how much it was pressed from above through zion channels)

The current roster is not well constructed whatsoever, but I 100% believe we at least make the play in if we have even an average coach. Thats why I dont thinkk SVG is the “scapegoat”. He made an average team worse than they should have been

I don’t buy that because there have been plenty of openings Kidd’s name wasn’t thrown around and recently when it was, it was legit and he had to address it(Portland).
Griff also really wanted Lue, and is on his third coach in three seasons, that alone disqualifies him from getting the benefit of the doubt. He’s basically one more bad personal move away from our version of late career Dumars. Just cycling through coaches to shift blame for shitty roster construction.

I admit I was really out of the loop when it comes to Pelicans stuff... esp. this past season as my work kept me VERY busy during the basketball season

Less talented is the wrong question. Team building is chemistry, not algebra. Your best creator is a power forward. Your best defender can't beat a pick and roll. Your best spacer is one of your more inconsistent shooters. I think they can make some marginal roster changes talent wise and get much better results with better fit and guys that plug some glaring holes.

Pels twitter has been putting out puff piece videos on Weatherspoon all season. I don't know if there was any organizational direction behind that, or if it was just the social media team taking advantage of a charismatic person low enough on the food chain to talk to them.
