I saw the same kind of justification of the Asik deal after a few days last year. Now, literally everyone says they hated it at the time.
I better not see more than 3 people say they hated the Hill deal next summer when he doesn't come close to living up to it.
I vocalized my hate for the Asik deal at the time and still do. I argued for Bismack. Do I get a cookie?
I don't mind the Hill deal. We have to gamble and if we are going to gamble, doing so on young athletic guys at a position of need is the way to go.

I don't believe "it could work out as well as it could flop" is accurate. I think if we were to build a good possibilities simulator and plug every relevant piece of data into it, it would say there is a 10 percent chance Hill exceeds his contract, 15% he lives up to it, and 75% chance he is a disappointment, relative to his deal. Now, life surprises you a lot, so I guess there is that

I hate this deal. It's a shitty deal. I would rather stand pat and not make a shitty deal than make a deal just for the sake of making a deal.
This team needs to rid itself of bad contracts, not create new ones. Granted, the escalated cap has created a new normal, but that doesn't mean we should dive in head first and do dumb shite. I prefer to let things settle, add another piece in the draft, then attack FA when we have a full understanding on the new market.

This is a good signing. Athletic and isn't inept on offense. We needed a 3 bad, be thankful that we finally addressed a need.

Hate the Asik deal all along too.
This is a youngish guy on the upswing with potential and actual athleticism. It's the guy you gamble on. Not a bum like Asik with the vertical leap of a deformed and retarded Galapagos tortoise that just sniffed ether.

I'm pretty interested in the center you mentioned we were looking at, Ioannis Bourousis. He's a bit old at 33, but he had his best season last year. 14.5/8.7 in 25 minutes while shooting 38% from 3. LINK
PF: Davis/Dante/Diallo/Babbitt, C: Asik/Ajinca
With Hill playing some small ball 4.... QPon playing a maybe more naturally suited 2 sometimes....I think there is some real potential that Giankovits will stick. He does things Ennis doesn't do. James will probably end up with the Clippers today anyway.
Then we are looking at whether or not we sign a Moore or Johnson at SG....
If not, Toney Douglas sticks... If we do... he goes. Our 14 looks like this, with Diallo getting a lot of time in the D-League, and Tyreke gone by the deadline?
Jrue/Frazier
Hield/Tyreke/(Douglas/FA SG)
Hill/QPon/Giankovits
Davis/Dante/Babbitt/Diallo
Asik/Ajinca

Portland giving Evan fricking Turner 4/70 was "making a deal to make a deal"

I'm with you buddy. This hire is no Bueno.

Yea, if youre going to take a chance, this is the type of guy you do it on. Young, Athletic wing that (supposedly) has a great work ethic.

Giving turner that contract was fricking nuts.

Let's be honest. If one of your rivals signed Hill to that contract you would be laughing your arse off. Dude averaged 4 ppg on a thin Indiana team.
I do think that he will be a solid player, but this contract is more questionable than the one Mozgov got IMO.

I like this over the Turner move every day.
I would have rathered Hill at 9-10, but teams like New Orleans have to overpay.

Turner is an extreme overpay and there is a huge sample size on him. Huge.
Hill is all potential based on a small but productive sample size. The potential is there. High risk, massive reward.

Mozgov is a dinosaur in today's NBA, who averaged 6 points per game and is being paid 4 mil more per year.

There were a few people repeating the salary comparison from TBW showing it wasn't a terrible deal, but the overwhelming majority of this board was very against it from the moment it was announced. The idea of resigning Asik had it's supporters including me, but not for that much or that long.

There are already more than 3 people in this thread saying they hate it. And who is excited about it? Gyno appears to be the biggest fan, but most of us are hoping it works out, not certain it works out.

I apologize Crewz. I shouldn't have said good player. He's merely decent with a chance to be good.
Now for the facts you want.
He's increased his PER each year he's played. Take it with a grain of salt since it's gone from 7 to 12, but it shows me development offensively.
Career 83 percent FT shooter, which tells me that fixing his shot isn't a lost cause. If you can shoot from a set shot effectively you can learn to shoot a jumper.
I don't take his starting season stats seriously at all. He was forced into being the guy way too soon on a team that knew going in wouldn't compete.
I'll have more in a bit

It's definitely less questionable than Moz by a long shot.
It's still questionable and a gamble. It's just a gamble I'm not going to lose my shite over. Cautious optimism from the Bunch.
