You've offered nothing as to why Hill will be below average

And you thrive off the straw man argument

No one is hating on you. Get over it.

Just to be clear, yu guys know the cap is gonna go back down in 2018, right? So he will be right at or a little above 12% his last 2 years.

Not that it matters a ton, but I don't like how people act like we all dont know the cap went up. We get it. I wrote about it for years. But 12% should get you a 5th-7th man who not just gets the minutes of a 5th-7th man, but produces at an above avg level. I don't think Hill gets to that point, but we shall see

I actually did not know that. So I take back that part of my point. And yes, I knew you were aware of the cap situation. I wasn't making that point because I thought you forgot.

Does he suck at D?

No, but he's not much better than average and doesn't add much on the other side of the ball either. He probably won't be more than 10-15% better than Pondexter.

So basically you are saying

You do understand that the near entirety of his career to this point HAS been below average?

Pondexter coming off his last half season with the Pels would be getting just as much if not more in this market

Literally everything in his past says below average. What do I need to show?

I don't get why the burden of proof is on the guy saying that the player who averaged 4/3, whose team declined a cheap option 10 months ago, and who did absolutely nothing of signifigance outside of hitting some 3's in a series - is not good. That's insane to me.
He hit a couple of open 3's in a series. He was 25% from 2 by the way in that same series. He didn't do anything else really well.

Look, you guys won't change my mind and I won't change yours. It doesn't matter. Hope your optimism pays off. Leave me and my realism be. Thanks

Both players are slightly above replacement level if we are being charitable. Simply saying it's not ideal but hoping it works.

Bring some QUALITY, and I will re-engage.

Not optimism. Not hope. Real talk, and we can have it. If people are just going to have rose colored glasses, it's pointless. But I'm not holding my breath.

So this is our first FA signing...a end of the bench guy.

He's not an end if the bench guy. When he got minutes with Ind he produced. Small sample size. Big risk. Big reward. It is what it is.

How much different is this than the Aminu contract last year?

How about this. I deal with objective data and subjective points of view on a daily basis. There exists no reliable model to either support or refute your view of the signing, regardless of the meager data available. It's all pure speculation and emotion

He's an end of bench guy for a contending team, but for us he might start given injuries and the lack of talent at the wing.

Clearly there is a gamble there, but on paper it's a proactive signing rather than a reactive one. If he can play to a Kent Bazemore level over starter minutes, you are talking about similar players with Hill being $6-7 mil cheaper per year.

If he is better than QPon, that's a win. I hope he will be but I don't think he will be.

For every Aminu there is an Earl Clark, but people just forget about wings with "potential" who don't improve. Just don't act like it's a forgone conclusion Hill is on the Aminu/Crowder/Carroll path.

He has more potential than Q. Better size (slightly), younger, less injury history, more of a 3/4 swing which is a bit more useful IMO, able to defend a much wider range of players.

We will see if he develops.

It's just a depressing signing. Even if this guy winds up being slightly above average or average, and I agree that the evidence says otherwise, we are going to suck. There's no light at the end of the tunnel. Let's countdown the minutes until AD is a Laker.
