Draft is a crap shoot

We were on the right side of that variance with Trey. He's not a projection or potential he's a fully-formed, good-to-great player.

Taking the sure thing (who is still pretty young and at a reasonable cost) to gamble on a long shot isn't smart.

Were you happy they held on to BI as long as they did, or were you mad they didn't get maximum value by trading him earlier.

Starting off a trade based on a #11 pick lowers the chance of getting max value for Trey. That's exactly the point.

To be fair to Trey, OG is what you want everyone to become defensively. He's in rarefied air for the entire league.

It will be more than just 11, but having them wait to see who is available at 11 is a very bad sign.

The point of accumulating lots of picks is to increase the chance of that pick being a very good pick. You also have to remember that there is a finite number of picks that can be had. Throwing away one of those picks for 11 basically makes its value almost 0, nerfing the overall value of any pick-based deal.

I feel like trading Trey and Herb is just Dumars doing something for the sake of doing something. Trey is a guy who literally fits perfectly with any star in the modern NBA. He has serious flaws in his game, but the gravity he brings with his range opens everything up. Herb is the only plus defender we have. I just don't see us being a better team without either of them.

well we won 26 games with them both.. so can't be much worse. This is the rebuild part no one likes. every one wants a rebuild then bitches when players are traded. and also when the rebuild takes more than one off season.

You realize we have a LOT of data on him after that championship to judge him, right?

This is a team that needs to recoup assets. Trey is our most valuable player, and he’s at best a 3rd option on a championship team. We are nowhere near competing for championships so it makes perfect sense to trade him while his value is at its highest.
Herb is a similar story. He is just a role player on a championship team and he’ll be 28 when the season starts. Cash in the value he has while you can.

But I do think the right, I think the thing is this: it probably will depend on who's sitting there at 11 when that pick comes up. And there's probably a certain amount of players that Joe Dumars and Troy Weaver have on their list that could be attractive to their franchise. If the Warriors can get Trey Murphy, I'm all for trading that pick for Trey Murphy."

are you asking when the pistons won a championship? It was 2003-2004 season. they beat the lakers with Kobe, Shaq, Gary payton, and the pistons star player.. chauncy billups and rasheed wallace. Rip Hamilton, tayshan prince.

then back to the finals the following year, losing to the tim duncan spurs and then 3 straight ECFs, before blowing the team up. they were in ECF in 02 as well before the championship

and then yes there were a few years of bad teams after that. but you can't say he sucks because of those years after, with out giving him credit for the great years before

Man I really hope the #11 smoke is for Herb and not Trey. Although #11/ '28 1st/ '32 1st isn't the worst per say.

Dream scenario:

GSW: Herb/ Peavy
ATL: Trey
MIL: Hawk/ Moody/ 2nds
MEM: Poole/ Looney/ 2nds

Pels: #8/ #11/ '27 MIL/ Risacher/ Ja M/ M Turner

Get it done!

DJ/ Fears
Ja Morant/ #8/ McGowens
Bey/ Risacher/ #11
Zion/ Queen/ Karlo
Turner/ Missi

Don't disagree. We just need to get a good haul for our 2 best assets. #11 for Trey is a trash trade. Needs to be more.

You're not getting an 11 for Trey. No one will trade a top 15 pick for a backup player.

You can trade Trey for a late first maybe and Herb for a late first maybe. Then, if you can pull that off maybe you can turn to late 1sts into a middle 1st.

That's a massive long shot, but their only option to get that high.

Wut. We either get 2-3+ 1sts or a lottery pick for Trey. Maybe both.

Herb for #11 straight up is very possible.

If we don't get the offers above then they stay on the roster.
