Ya seems like starting Rondo/Jrue/Hill/AD/Boogie could be a mistake.

I like the idea of taking out Hill for more in that lineup. But then Hill has to go to the bench................... where he will be pretty useless.

I still think they need a 6th man type. Just someone whose sole job is just to score points. Not sure Crawford is good enough to fill that role just on his own.

Still think Beasley is the obvious solution that is still on the market.

Why are you laughing and castying him? Rondo has been absolutely terrible as the ball handler in the PnR the last 2 years. 19th percentile last year in Chicago and 42nd percentile 2 years ago with Boogie in Sacramento.

I notice how you aren't actually substantiating that with anything. And ignoring the posts that did.

your last point is a good one and likely why they signed him
good rondo is what they need from an intensity standpoint
bad rondo could be calamitous

People are forgetting that there is a lot of mutual respect between Erman and Rondo, if anyone can get him to play defense it's Erman.

Also, people are shitting on Hill's spacing. He's not Klay Thompson, but he's also not Wade or DeRozan.

That is sort of why Finch made so much sense. None of them are true floor generals, but Finch thrived in taking situations like that and turning it into a league leading offense by running much of it through a strong facilitating big man with secondary facilitators, decent spacing and cutting.

Completely valid point. And I agree with you. I think it will be interesting to see if Rondo is willing to fit into the Finch offense or even if he can (I think he can). Either way, I think this gives us more flexibility. Rondo can obviously be a primary ball handler for the first/second unit or if he buys into the Finch offense we can utilize his quickness to cut to the basket, court vision, and oddly impressive spot-up off-ball shooting.

Also I said that Rondo's best unit will be him with AD, Cousins, Jrue, and QPon/Moore..aka be on the floor with shooters. I did not say that would be our best overall lineup.

The celts were pretty successful w rondo running PnR on almost a quarter of their offensive possessions

If you're going to put any stock into rondo stats from the last two years, shite from Dallas on, you cannot think he's good for this team at all. Everything he has done in that span would lead you to believe he will kill us

Sam Mitchell is also an assistant coach for us and is known to be a high character players coach. Rondo will be just fine. Hopefully this works out and we can sign him to a 2 year deal next offseason and add another starter.

I think this pretty much wraps up the offseason.

Your stats are misleading. A lot of it has to do with fit and spacing. Rondo can't shoot well so defenders will go under the screen to dare him to shoot which makes the P&R ineffective. So his teams don't run them as much. It's not because he's bad at running the same play, it's because he needs proper spacing to make it work.

I think with both Davis and Cousins on the floor, we'll see some creative P&R setups that will work time and time again due to Davis ability to out jump everyone and our bigs preventing defenses from corralling either one of them in the post. We won't have the spacing on the perimeter but there will be plenty of space down low as teams will not be able to corral both Davis and Cousins at the same time. And Rondo is a guy who can punish defenses by getting the ball to the right guy at the right time.

90 something percent of Hill's 3PA last season were classified as "open" and he made 34% of those shots

Can he be better? Yes
Has he proven to be a consistent 3P threat? No

If he can make those shots at even a league average mark he will be good for a few more wins

Like you said, you couldn't find a better situation for Rondo to succeed in from an attitude/emotional perspective. Hopefully that makes all the difference in the world. But if he's just a Frazier level player how does that kill us?

I hate when people use percentages when it comes to shooters. Just because someone shoots in the mid 30% doesn't mean that a defense won't sag off of the said player.

When I think of a shooter/spacer, he has to be a guy the defense has to always keep an eye on and account for anywhere on the court. We just don't have that type of player unless Frank Jackson develops FAST.

Elite passer and once elite but still very good defender for cheap, yes please. We need to at the minimum make the playoffs and win a series or two. This will help us keep Boogie and show FAs NOLA is a destination. Rondo will help make it happen. CP3 doesn't go to rockets if they don't have the season they had last year.

What do you think is going to happen if he's playing with Jrue/Hill/AD/DC? They will go under on him and pack the paint and sag off Hill and dare Rondo/Hill to beat them with jumpers.

Rondo is good at making the right pass in chaos, but the other players have to move to create the chaos. This team has been trying to run an offense where the players move a lot since Monty was here, but it seems to be pretty hard to get players to be active on offense.
