Biannual exception.
Still rest of MLE left.

I'm not sure who they'd use it on. I guess if you dump Ajinca then Speights or Withey would be worth going after. If you don't dump Ajinca then Afflalo probably makes the most sense as a guy to spend $4-$5 million on. Would Ian Clark be that cheap?

If this is BAE - Dell is all in on this season.

Next year he will have only taxpayer exception

Clark wanted 8. But probably there is no market 4him.
I expect Simmons money for him.

Afflalo makes some sense.
Maybe Babbitt as cheaper Dante?

He kind of has to be. If this doesn't work out it will be time to blow it up. If it does work out, use the Non Bird Exception to give Rondo and Afflalo(or whoever) a 20% raise and use the taxpayer MLE to add another player next year.

The $3.3M Rajon Rondo contract now has the Pelicans $486K below the luxury tax. New Orleans has 12 guaranteed and 3 non-guaranteed/partial contracts. The protection on Axel Toupane will increase to $200K if not waived by July 25. In addition the contract of Quinn Cook will become guaranteed $100K if he is not waived by July 25. Both players currently count $50K against the Pelicans guaranteed money.

3.3 mil is a gift for us. We don't get players (anyone) for that kind of money.

Clark may take a one year prove it deal, most of the available space this offseason has been dried up:

Ian Clark would work well, but he's a net negative offensively and defensively. Not sure if we're not better off giving someone else a try.

I'd be careful here w/ sweeping statements like that based on OBPM etc. lots of noise. For instance, how many of Clark's minutes were in garbage time?

anyone they bring in for this level of money will have obvious flaws. it's how they fit and what they can do that matters. if they believe in Cook as a shooter, not sure why you bring Clark in. I'd rather a flyer on a wing in that scenario

Best case scenario is Clark becomes a good 2 way combo guard on a decent contract. That's not bad, but as you said in comparing him to Cook, does that kind of redundancy fill a need? If they are ready to stretch Asik I think Afflalo should be the top target. He's a good shooter, veteran role player, and he's got enough size to give you minutes at SF.
