From Zach Lowe’s latest article

quote:

The Pelicans are 13-8 with the West’s second-best point differential. They’re getting a bit lucky with cold opponent 3-point shooting, but given how many games their best players have missed it’s clear this is a good team at minimum. Executives from other West playoff hopefuls often whisper about their fear of two rivals cashing in their chips in a win-now move: New Orleans and the Memphis Grizzlies. Regardless, the future is bright in New Orleans. –

SGA or my dark horse candidate Embiid.

Makes zero sense. Why would we do that? This team doesn't need any more high usage players. We have one of the deepest most balanced roster in the league with a mix of strong offensive and defensive players.

I don't even know what that would be though.

No way Philly is trading Embiid.

We don't need more scoring and we're almost definitely not trading one of our big 3 or Dyson, Trey or Herb.

So that means picks and maybe Jonas? But who would even be available?

Doesn't SGA get most of his points in iso situations? Wouldn't that just wreck the entire rhythm of our offense?

Therein lies the rub. We are very close to a complete roster and mainly need injury luck.

What we need is Bam Adebayo or Myles Turner, but Turner is going to cost too much and I doubt Bam is available.

This is one of those scenarios where getting CJ last year neuters the ability to go after a better/younger guy (like SGA or Mitchell or Murray).

The question is what would you give up for a 1-year rental in the rest of this Turner season.

He's definitely ball dominant and I think the best version of the Pels going forward has BI/Zion initiating the offense most of the time.

That being said, I'm not saying no to SGA because he does bring a lot of other qualities to the table. It's not like he can't play off ball, and he is a good 2 way player. He probably still checks as many boxes as anyone else that's "available". I think availability is his biggest drawback, why would OKC trade him?

Because OKC is secretly the NBA's farm team.

Nope.. one of the youngest teams in the league with a path to continuously replenish roster with cost-controlled talent to develop along your core

Emotionally, I wouldn't want to see any of these guys go. But my brain is telling me that there may be a move out there. Don't aske me what that is though. I'm just a message board poster. I do think DeAndre Ayton would fit this team like a glove.

and with the way things are going with Miami, as they have been a bit shitty this year, this is realistic.

we have the assets to get literally anyone we want.
If Giannis wanted out of Milwaukee, we'd be the front runner to get him.
We are another Lebron injury away from a sure thing top 5 pick.

I love Dyson and Herb as well, but a lineup of CJ/BI/Trey/Zion/Bam is the best starting 5 in the league hands down.

he gets to the free throw line, and then makes his free throws. its is pretty clearly what the pels offense is missing

That sounds good and all but when you realize that landing him is going to take an AD-like package, it kinda of kills any interest one might have.

This is not a stab at CJ whatsoever and yes chemistry would change with another big time player (especially a ball dominant player). But y’all are on crack if you don’t think an SGA, De’Aron Fox, Zach LaVine isn’t an upgrade over CJ or would make this team immediately elite.

No argument on how good we currently are or can be but CJ is past his prime. The real question is whether we can get a savage center without giving up important players.

We have 29 mil between Hayes, Kira, Graham, Temple, and Billy. Throw Val in there if it would be for a Jokic/ Embid (not saying it’s possible or that I want to get rid of Val) but that’s 44 mil to work with…. Factor in that we have 4+ draft picks we could use without consequence and we can technically do whatever the frick we want right now.

Some of the names yall are mentioning would require b.i. to go out with the Lakers swap pick.

This isn't NBA 2k. You're not getting a premier player without gutting your roster.

Pels are $7mil over the tax for next season as of right now. The Grizzlies are $40 mil under.

If you're a betting man, Memphis has much more flexibility to get that done. And it just makes way more sense for Memphis too. We have 20ppg stars. A 4th is just diminishing returns. Memphis's 3rd best player doesn't really need to score to be impactful. But again, that's before looking at the cap implications, which makes Memphis more likely than us.
